My parents actually just went through and got rid of some books. Donated them to the local library, I think.

If you had enough books you could have built a new home. Gingerbread would be nicer ...

Gingerbread has a proven history of problems as a home construction material.

I have received two plastic cards in the same post - the credit card sought that people send out as reminders of important numbers - one is from the Diocesan Counselling Service the other is from Skoda Direct. They both offer full breakdown cover in their different ways I suppose ...

This day's funeral was one of the most difficult I have ever been involved in. A brother and sister who would not communicate with each other at all - let about their late mother's arrangements - and managed to start the week at loggerheads with each other, me, the solicitor and the undertaker. Glad it is over frankly, though I think I did a good enough job within the restrictions that they created.
Two pieces of good news cancel that particular gloominess out: the Xray pictures are back and there is no arthritis in my knee, so the problem must be with a ligament and that it is a much easier matter. The other is that I went through on-line re-registration for the university this morning and it turns out that the 40% fee increase only applies to new students - I get charged the same amount as last year, not that it is particularly cheap, but it does mean that the profit on the research project I did in the summer should be enough to see through to the end of the course. That's good.

Too bad about the funeral. I find funerals can bring out the absolute worst in everyone. But good news about the knee and the fees!

Quite a challenging few days: the weekend was busy because of the Candlemas solemnities, two masses and evening worship with all the fiddly bits, candles, procession, renewal of baptism vows ... the works in fact.
And then there are all the funerals - Mondays was a delight, lovely family and the deceased was someone well known to us in the parish so there was a lot of connectedness about it all. Today was the bereavement group coffee morning and then to the university for the afternoon - tomorrow is another funeral - it's the time of year sadly - followed by a funeral visit and Thursday ...
oh dear, Thursday ...
we have lost a significant member of the congregation due to a fatal fall from a ladder outside one of the church buildings. The funeral will be the best send-off we can manage, and Venerable Mother, the Archdeacon of Baradurbury herself, is descending upon us in full panolpy of splendour to preside over the solemnities.
Will have to be on very best behaviour ...

Aaaaaaaaaargh ... Venerable Mother was nice to me ... it's almost worse than when she is in razor sharp mode ...
... having said that the funeral was very moving and a fitting tribute with a packed church and everybody on parade in our best kit. The deceased was a very fine man and we shall miss him greatly.

There is a Roman Catholic jibe about being, 'As lost as a Jesuit in Holy Week' ... Jesuits don't do liturgy and Holy Week is complex enough for a competent liturgist ... me, for instance ... so I wonder how HH Frances 1st got on ...

Despite the dreadful weather there has been no snow on the Muehlviertelbahn (modelling snow in 1/43 is complex) but I have finished building the Klima Schneefplug just in case.

I was quite pleased with it ... apart from the one major error - you will seek in vain for a way in! I forgot the doorway from the rear brake platform!!

I don't think the teeny little conductor much cares. He looks to be made of some kind of plastic...

He is no mere conductor! He is an Unterbahnmeister for reasons no one outside the Austrian Ministry of Labour can understand the crew complement for a Klimaschneepflug is five ... I really can't work out what they would all have done.
There is an operator (seated in the cab) the Unterbahnmeister (who is in command of the exercise) a machinist, perhaps, to ensure the running of the Westinghouse pump that powers the various bits and pieces in the vehicle ... what do the other two do? Serve the bier? Stand on the back platform and shout instructions to the loco driver, there being no other means of communication ...
