Dusty (who's 7 years old and I might have mentioned before, even posted photos of) is now prowling round the house checking everything out. She's just flown from South Africa to Heathrow, spent 4 hours being scanned and cleared through customs (no face scanning fast-track line for her), and been driven here. Hid under the cupboards for a bit but seems quite happy to see us. Photos ... once she slows down enough

Good news! She must have been traumatized, though...

Yes, took my two ages to get used to the new house and that was only a small journey with people they knew

Aye that's a long journey. I am glad you got custody of her though. Give her some treats from me

She's taken to miaowing plaintively in the last couple of hours ... and there’s no sign that she's used the litter tray ... but we're not letting her outside, at least not for while.
Impasse.

Kitties are nice. Yesterday I spent some time huggling mine while we were visiting my parents.

That's cute. I remember hearing something about a significant reduction in the quarantine rules regarding pets entering the UK some time ago, guess you made use of that too?

Yes, from Jan 2012 there was new legislation. Damn EU getting into everyone's affairs and forcing harmonisation!

I think she's learning to use the litter tray ... she was an outdoor cat originally, with our large garden in a quiet suburb in Johannesburg. Not letting her out into our very small garden or busy suburb for a while!

She seems pretty comfy and at home already. Very pleased with herself considering the traumatic flying across half the planet thing was going on. Does she get any jet lag?

Ah, a beautiful and elegant cat lady! And a bit scared-looking on the first photo. But she seems to have recovered on the other photos.
Four hours seems a short time, I think I've read about animals from abroad spending two weeks in quarantine, on the owner's expenses of course. Both traumatising and expensive.

The rules used to be six months quarantine, spaceflower, but provided you have the right rabies vaccination with the right paperwork and the right microchip, you can skip that.

It looks like I haven't posted about this yet.
Dusty, who is now 14 and has been a sedate old lady cat for a while, has a limited amount of time left. She has a tumour (squamous cell carcinoma if I heard the vet right) under her tongue that makes it difficult for her to eat - and probably painful though she's on two kinds of painkillers. She is still eating, but only the wet food and obviously not enough of it because she's losing weight. The vet says surgery is technically possible, but is quite likely not to get all of the tumour, and would be risky, and quite traumatic for her. Ie, not a good option.
It's also difficult or impossible for her to wash - so I'm brushing her several times a day and using a damp towel when I can - I doubt I will attempt to bath her as that would shorten my life too...
She's OK in other cat ways - jumping onto my lap, moving around the house to find patches of sun, hissing at other cats in the garden - so it's not time yet. It's just that sooner or later she won't be able to eat or will be too weak from weight loss.

Oh dear, a cat who is physically fit except for one problem, she can't eat properly In your opening post, it seems she was quite agile.
