Sit back with something nice to sip while watching the intrepid lorry drivers hurl themselves against this very robust low bridge.

I've never seen anyone do that... but there's always a first time.

You can't help feeling that it's not sufficiently signed.

It is North Carolina, though.
But anyway, did it look to anyone else as though just prior to impact, many of the vehicles suddenly bobbed up? It seems to me that perhaps there is a bump in the road, or perhaps the front wheels have already begun to go back uphill, thus causing the roof to hit the bridge.

I have to admit that I found it quite amusing to watch that!

I liked how some didn't even seem to notice.
A body shop could make a killing if they advertised just after that bridge.

In the UK, there are often gantries with hanging chains set a half-inch or so less than the height of the bridge on the approaches to low bridges. The chains don't do much damage to the vehicles (a lot less than the bridge anyhow!) but the noise they make when a vehicle hits them attracts the attention of dozy drivers more effectively than any warning sign.

I just watched it a second time. I can't help it, it just makes me laugh!

I've watched it four times now. We shouldn't laugh... erm, yes, we should.

It is very cruel to laugh ... and more or less impossible to resist ...

I find it amazing just how fast some of them are travelling. It also seems that a few inches would save a lot of those lorries from being opened just fractionally along the roof.
I think the stripy sign and flashing lights should be enough! If you drove like that in the UK, you could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention and I would imagine professional lorry drivers could very easily lose their job from that.

Do satnavs give warnings of low bridges? Can you enter the height of your lorry and ask the satnav to avoid bridges that are too low?

Some rental trucks here, such as the U-Haul ones used for moving, have stickers listing the height of the vehicle. These are often placed near the entrance to the driver's door, and I think in such a way as to be visible from the side mirror.

I am not certain, but I think in the UK it is required for all high vehicles to have the information inside the vehicle, visible to the driver... does not mean that they actually pay attention to it though. I imagine that drivers being given last-minute changes to their directions, or being rushed to complete jobs probably end up with too many other things on their minds.

I winced at a few of them, especially with the care-free nature of the way someone would drive under something even close to the height of their vehicle and especially at how far they went before stopping. I think in most cases the biggest victim was ego!

I can laugh at this type of thing, but I am often far more concerned how close people have come to serious injury. In this case it was mostly vehicle bodies damaged to varying degrees, but I often cringe when I see programmes on TV showing people falling and twisting their necks violently. I assume that they wouldn't show someone breaking their neck, but it's far too scary a thought for me to find it funny.

I saw a programme about female cage fighters in which it looked remarkably as though a kick broke someone's neck. I wince every time I think about it.

The programme was a documentary about female cage fighters rather than an actual fight and as such it was very interesting. The programme followed the progress of two cage fighters with small clips from a number of fights. I was amazed at the punishment being metered out and the bruises they sustained.

To be honest, I don't understand why people do that to themselves or each other as a sport.

In Yorkshire they say: 'There's none so queer as folk'. I expect it means something.
