For the third time this season, I woke up this morning with no heat in my house. The first time it was the pump which brings the hot water to my house from the church, the second time it was the furnace itself and who knows what it it this time. It's -11C outside and the temperature in my house is falling fast. I called the plumber, but who knows how long it will take them to get here. I hate this!

That sounds awful. Have you any supplementary heating like a gas fire or portable electric heaters?

No supplementary heat as such. I turned on the oven and left the door open for awhile, but it didn't make much of a dent in my enormous house. I'm at the office now where there's an electric heater, waiting for the plumber to call. I'm sure the animals are getting chilly, but we're not close to freezing in the house as yet, so I'm sure they'll be okay. My daughter is off babysitting this morning, so she's okay. But I'm tired! I've been up since before 5am.

The heat is still out --at about 10 hours from when I first noticed it getting cold. The repair guy is looking at it now, so hopefully the warmth will soon be on its way!

I'm huddling in my office --but it's not very pleasant. (Plus I feel guilty that I'm not working.)

Can you wrap yourself up in a sleeping bag?

I have a down duvet on my bed which is very warm, but I don't want to just lie in bed for hours.

When the three bodies in my house stay in the bedroom, we can keep it at a bearable temperature, although, that includes me under a duvet to some extent. Would hate to get up and have to go into the rest of the house without heat though.

It's starting to heat up now. The plumber was at the church for almost 6 hours! I shudder to think what the bill will be like...

Will you have to pay the bill, Kye?

That's a long time for a repair job.

It took him awhile to figure out what went wrong then he spent about an hour or more in traffic to get a necessary part. I guess I'll find out what it costs when they send an invoice. Kaylee, I don't pay personally, but our church finances are pretty tight, so this will definitely make a dent in our budget.

It's some comfort that you don't have to pay.

Generally, I think that's the worst thing that can happen in winter.

Um, no, the worst thing is if you die.

Which would probably follow the no-heat-situation.

Touché - for someone who can't think straight, you're doing rather well.

I don't know about you, but it's been unseasonably warm here the last day or two. Hope things are working out for you!
