I was mentioning in facebook that no one sends Christmas cards anymore. Unless it's from you guys, I don't usually get more than a scant handful of cards. I do remember that not that long ago --maybe 10 years? it was the exception not to send cards. Now it seems unusual to find someone who does.
Is this just a Canadian thing? What's the tradition where you come from?

In the UK, the Royal Mail says the average number of Christmas cards sent in 2012 is 19 per person but I'm not sure what that means. If a married couple sends 50 cards, does that count as 25 each or 50? Since this is a report by the Royal Mail, it is likely to be a count of the number of cards delivered by post but many more Christmas cards are delivered by hand. I'm not convinced the people doing surveys of the numbers of Christmas cards know how to count. According to this webpage, the average person in the US sends 100 to 150 Christmas cards but according to this webpage, the average person in the US only receives 26. And this webpage says the average in the US is 28 per household, which works out at 10 per person. I don't believe any of the statistics. We, ourselves sent 66 cards this year between the two of us, of which 36 were delivered by post.

My mother usually delivered those within the village herself, along with presents. I like sending Christmas cards and post most of them. But I hardly get any ones from anyone except for people here.

My UK aunt sends me one every year. I got one from my dog's breeder (really should send one back, note to self, grrr), and I would not be surprised if the last week coming up for them will bring one from one sort or religious friend I have, she has persistently been sending them as well.

I get a bit bogged down by jobs at Christmas. If I do a job straight away, it gets done but if I leave it a day, I'm more likely to leave it a week.

In Flanders the tradition is only to send cards to the people that you have not seen at Christmas, they are posted on the days following.

Despite having gotten all the shopping and wrapping done relatively early this year, we just never got around to doing cards ... again. I made a proactive offer to help more significantly than I have done in the past, but it was not to be. Maybe next year. You are all no less thought of, and I do wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season! Enjoy!
