We have a sick kitten. Elanor had a day or two of vomiting and has been given an injection to stop that, and is now doing nothing. Drinking, using the litter tray, and otherwise sitting as still as possible. Hasn't touched food since Friday morning. (Yes, those claws are holding onto my hand) If she isn't showing signs of getting better by tomorrow morning, back to the vet ...

She still has no interest in food and is very very lethargic. But is not visibly ill in other ways.
Took her back to the vet for a check-up: the diagnosis is "I'm not really sure, just general sick cat". But they've taken blood for tests.

When my cat was a kitten he stopped eating for 5 days. He was like a little deflated balloon... But then he spontaneously started eating again, and he hasn't stopped since.

Gandalf did that too but he ... well did die. Not trying to be negative obviously but if she does not eat again soon maybe IV would be a good idea

Took her to the vet again this morning - they gave her some more relieving injections and dose of rehydrating fluid, and took blood for testing. An IV was on the cards as one of the next steps (along with xrays). She was lethargic still most of today but has perked up and eaten some food. And purred a lot when being stroked. So I think things are looking ok

Sounds like she is on the mend. Hope so!

She wasn't really on the mend - but she is now.
Third trip to the vet today. They found and removed a shoelace from the stomach and intestines. Silly kitty!
Still at the vet, recovering, but should be home tonight.

Back home now, and eating again. She needs to get back all the weight she lost!

Poor Elanor! Hope she makes a full and quick recovery now that the offending article has been removed.
Don't leave shoelaces or other stringy things lying around the house in future!
With hindsight, maybe the anti-vomiting injection was a bad idea - perhaps she might have gotten rid of the shoelace herself without that?

I don't think there was much chance of that. On Saturday morning the vet probed (palpated?) her abdomen quite thoroughly and didn't feel anything, so it was probably already twisted through the intestines. But it did perhaps give us a false sense of her recovering, and we should have gone for an x-ray on Monday.

You'll have to get rid of all your shoes and start wearing slippers all the time!

How is Elanor doing? Is she back to full strength yet?

Fat, strong, manic and super fluffy Fur has not fully grown back on the areas the vet had to shave, but otherwise you wouldn't know!

Somehow I missed the rest of the story. A shoelace? Wow. Glad to hear she is fine now.
