We were at my mum's earlier and flicking through the channels and found a new programme that I had vaguely heard about called 'Victorian bakers' or something. It was .. well basically a history of bread making in the nineteenth century and I believe was the first one of a series (not sure how many parts). Anyway, my nephew complained very loudly at being subjected to culture but actually it was rather interesting. Anyone seen or at least heard of it?

We watched it, it was really interesting - but then I always watch stuff like that.
The historian on it also does similar programmes with a team of other historians, things like The Sixteenth Century Farm, in which they dressed up, lived and worked in a reconstructed farm.
I think there's something so comforting about that kind of stuff, a bit like historical costume drama. I'll watch anything with bonnets.

Me too . My nephew complained that it was dull and my mum and Col politely did not say much at all but I really did love it. Did you see the one where Ann Widdecombe and a few others were sent back to live for a week as 19th century working class ? The Sixteenth century farm sounds great is that available anywhere?

I saw the Christmas episode. I do like that sort of thing and you learn interesting tidbits.

In spite of the assertion above, I did enjoy the programme, although I'd not want to watch long runs of such things. They do tend to get a bit bogged down in the details and a lot of the programme turns into filler.

Agree with Alva on this one. I really enjoying watching a bit of these shows but they do stretch them out way too much, and make it all so dramatic.

I did realy enjoy the one about bathrooms and toilets - I've always been fascinated about how people use to poop and pee and wash back in the day. But in that show I remember she went through the ages so it flowed quite fast. Plus since the subject is rarely talked about the entire thing was fascinating.
