I see that the Netherlands are to have a king for the first time in more than a century, Queen Beatrix having decided that 75 is a good age to retire at. I guess this means that little Katherina-Amalia has only got thirty years of freedom left before it is her turn!
King Willem-Alexander will acceed in April on Queen's Day which won't be Queen's Day anymore and will be three days earlier on his birthday instead of his grandma's.

Yeah, silly Dutchies. Instead of putting it on another day so that we could all get a day off they're doing it on a day that is already off.

Or envious. Doesn't look like Lizzy will abdicate, she'll die first.

I think she'll spend all her money on an animatronic version of herself to cover until Charles can't do it any more!

Or envious. Doesn't look like Lizzy will abdicate, she'll die first. Hardly surprising after what her uncle did! Abdication is a very dirty word in British royal circles after those events. King Willem-Alexander will acceed in April on Queen's Day which won't be Queen's Day anymore and will be three days earlier on his birthday instead of his grandma's. Er... wot? It will be King's Day! And on April 27 (his birthday) instead of 30th (grandma's birthday) Queen Beatrix kept her mother's date as a compliment to Queen Julianna instead of moving it to her own birthday

Of course, I could have written with greater clarity in the first place ...

But where's the fun in clarity?

And Queen Beatrix's birthday is in a week so who wants to be out celebrating now?
It's a good thing they didn't change the day already this year because too many people plan vacations around the long weekend offered by this years Queens day.
But Shake is right, if I were in charge things would be a lot different. For one thing, there wouldn't be a monarchy. But there would be more days off.

I've noticed a couple of forums have given Prince Willem Alexander and his wife nicknames Wax and Max (she being Princess Máxima) although I suspect this is relatively new and not widespread.
