The smear campaign against Hillary is really stepping up and I gather that polls are narrowing. Is there any realistic chance that Trump might win?

2 to 1? Omigod.
I've been having an ominous feeling for a while that he might.

Yes, it really is that close. It's not exactly a Brexit moment because we have been warned but it feels like we're reliving a nightmare.

I saw two Trump signs on the way to work this morning. :-( Previously I've only seen them out in the sticks where I grew up, though not a many as I expected, to be honest. Usually the place is crawling with political signs. This year they're almost all for local races.
I haven't seen any Hillary signs. But I'm fairly certain that MN will go for Hillary because we're a pretty solidly democratic state.
Are your odds the right way around, Steve? 538 is still predicting a Hillary win, but it's tighter than it used to be.

The station I was watching yesterday was saying that there is a small avenue for him to win, but several things all have to fall into place for him for that to happen. They go on to say that having them all fall in line is unlikely, though possible.
The interesting points are that places like Virginia and Georgia could possibly go to Hillary, and these would be huge results. Huge not in terms of electoral votes (270 are needed to win), but just in that they've been traditionally Republican (at least in recent history). There was even a rumor a while back that she had a chance at winning Texas, though this is not all that likely. She'll easily get NY and CA, which those alone would put her around 25% of the way to 270. She'll get most of the northeast and it's looking like NV will go her way. I also heard that AK could even possibly go to her, which is significant in the same way as GA and VA.

I guess we have an answer now.

According to Noam Chomsky, Congress's policies are irrelevant to 70% of the electorate. Trump gave them a voice to express their feelings, and they did. In retrospect, we should not be surprised. Trump is continuing what the Occupy movement started.
Copied from the Countdown thread in case you missed it.

I have read from quite a few Christians that they think Trump is the lesser evil. I don't understand how Christians can support racism and misogyny and being narrow-minded and against all minorities. I want to hide from that now.

I don't understand many American Christians. Quite the different culture...

Very different - I don't understand some of them either.

My parents (and, I think, my brother and sister) think he's the lesser of two evils. Some of my extended family actively supported him and are excited he won. I don't understand.
I hate conflict and didn't talk politics much with any of them before the election. Partly because I'm a coward and partly because I was sure Hillary would win our state, so it didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. (The results in MN were closer than I thought it would be, still it's nice to be the blue state in a sea of red.)
Now, I'm avoiding seeing my family for a bit. I just can't bear to talk about it with them, because though I don't like conflict I can't and won't lie. I have to see immediate family on Friday and extended in a week and a half. Drop a prayer or a kind thought for me, if you can.
And as long as I'm spilling my guts, I want to thank all of you for being part of my political and moral education. If I hadn't stumbled on the Wardrobe 11 years ago, who knows, I might have voted for Trump yesterday. You've broadened my mind in lots of ways and I'm just glad you're in my life.

I'd like to think you would not have voted for Trump anyway, given the things that he has said - they are truly appalling . I actually had some family members who voted for Brexit (though most did not) and yeah, I avoided discussing it for the same reason - I was not going to say 'yeah, it's fine' but I don't like fighting. Best wishes with your family in a week and a half.
