Took a while to read that one! I'm not sure I'd want to witness an autopsy!

Today my daughter suggested that to prevent people from starting to smoke, they should perform autopsies on smokers in the schools school so all the students can see the lungs on a regular basis while they are young/children.
I just knew taking her to Bodyworlds might have been inadvisable.

In this country, they print pictures of smokers' teeth, throats, lungs, etc. on the packs of cigarettes and that doesn't seem to put people off!

except for those who were already put off. They stack these packets above thetill, so when you look at the cassiere it is hard to miss those lovely pictures...

Apparently it is now illegal for cigarettes to be publicly displayed in this country anyway tho a lot of places seem to be ignoring this

And after you ask for them, you have to show ID to buy them if you look under 30. You can buy them at 18, but some teens look older, therefore the 30 rule. IIRC some had pictures as well, but I doubt most smokers look at them. You need to get to them before they are smokers, and pictures just don't do the awful truth justice.

true
It is 21 here for cigarettes I think that you have to look, at twenty five for alcohol. I saw a young couple - tho clearly over eighteen - being declined a bottle of wine in a supermarket not long ago. On the way out I commiserated with them and they laughed and said that they were both 22 but they had not had an id on them. They were remarkably good natured about it ... I think I'd have been annoyed really. There's caution and then tere's over caution

I thought it was no longer legal to have them on display. Our local Morrisons now has plain grey doors over the cigarettes, but small newsagents seem to keep them on show.
*Asks Moose for ID*

It's something like that here, too. They'll ID you if you look under 30-ish. Could be 35. I don't know ... never smoked, never will.

I ask people for ID in the bar if they look like they might be under 18 and sometimes, I end up being horribly wrong.

Is it bad if you think a person is 17 when they are 25? Would that person not take it as a compliment?

Tracy was refused entry to a club on her 25th birthday. She was far too annoyed to take it as a compliment.

At my senior school, there was a tradition of calling the new intake "sprogs" in an insulting manner (although not offensively) when passing in the corridor. This continued in my case until I was in the 5th year!
