Me? It's fall. I'm making apple pies.
I went to the Apple Tasting Festival at Portland Nursery on their first day...figured I'd get there early on Friday and beat the weekend crowds. Me and two brazillion other locals.
Anyhoo...I dragged home three bags of apples. My current favorite, Idared, and two contenders, Newtown Pippin and Northern Spy.
Made two pies, one of Idared apples, and the other of Newtown Pippin.
The Idared won.

Obviously, your pies cannot be expressed as the root of a polynomial equation.

I am swimming, I am swimming!
It will burn off the calories in the cream, at least

Are you swimming ... in pie? in apples?
Or in an actual pool?

I got some Haralsons at the farmer's market yesterday, so pie is in my future as well. :-)

First! Joe! That is an infinitely wonderful cartoon Second! Apple Pie is the best. My favourite apple that is only available at this time of year are Russets, but I'm currently appleless....I might have to go to a farmers market as Russets are not available in shops. Third! My favourite apple pie recipe is my mother's Dutch Apple Pie, made with brown sugar and the cream that was separated from the skim milk when we had dairy cattle. I estimate its the equivalent of Double Cream.... ..Cream so thick it was almost butter even without shaking it. (Sven might describe it as his favourite Fat delivery system, second only to Alfredo sauce on pasta) So her recipe was: Make a pie shell. Slice apples into the pie shell. Add Butter (whatever amount seemed right to her) Then mix the cream with Brown sugar (again, whatever amount seemed right to her) and pour on top of the apples. Then lots of cinnamon and perhaps some nutmeg. Then bake til it seemed done to her. d
I used to actually make it following those instructions, but haven't for 40 years now.... so I've forgotten what "whatever seems right" means...measuring cups were never used.

"Home grown" means it could be any kind of apple, from a cider apple to a dessert apple. How many, or how much, do you have?
