I am getting a bit worried about Alan. I know he started a new job and was busy with it but he did say that he'd be back online in October and it's now November and no word. I have texted him a couple of times, including when Gandalf died, and had not response which worries me a bit. I don't want to phone in case he just doesn't want to be in touch with people at the moment but I'd like to know that he's okay. has anyone been in touch with him in any way?

No, but you're right. It has been quite a while. I hope he checks in soon, though checking in on the old EF isn't going to be easy.

I sent him a text message with a link to this site, since his old email address is no longer valid.

I could phone but it seems a bit intrusive to phone without invitation. Maybe he's just really busy?

I could phone but it seems a bit intrusive to phone without invitation. Maybe he's just really busy? Is it? I hate calling people, but I'm always happy to receive a phone call. I wouldn't think of it as being intrusive. If the other person doesn't want to talk, he'll make up an excuse and hang up?

I could phone but it seems a bit intrusive to phone without invitation. Maybe he's just really busy? I thought that the idea of giving people your number was so that they would 'phone you? So and expression of friendship onto his answering service is hardly pushing the limits is it? You could try phoning me (if you could get the international connection*) but I doubt you would get past my receptionist. The international dialling code is 00-666, by the way.

I must admit that I don't much care for being phoned out of the blue. I am not much of a phone person.

Especially when it's from a call centre in India.

Someone called me earlier and told me they were from British Gas and they wanted to apologise for the delay in booking me in for cavity wall insulation and make an appt for me to have it done. I told them it was done six months ago. They apologised and went away.

Either a scam or a mistaken number.

No they asked for me by name. And it was the people who DID do the insulation

They probably had forgotten to close the work ticket on it, or had duplicates for some reason, so it still registered as not done.

I must admit that I don't much care for being phoned out of the blue. I am not much of a phone person. I'm not much of a phone person either, but deal with it much better when someone else calls me. I don't mind receiving calls as much as making them ... though I have been working on getting better at that.

The thing that annoys me most is when people you've told not to ring you call. At the office, customer services have a list of people who they know to permanently tell that I am in a meeting and to take a message (which never gets left) as they plague me constantly with calls which are never going to get them anywhere. Many suppliers have actually lost themselves what business I might have given them, just for annoying me that way!
Then, of course are the ones that pretend they are returning your call or you know who they are...

I'm alright with receiving calls (depending on who calls me), but I hate making phone calls.

And me, but I do also feel very awkward talking to people, even if it is less so when they called me, as presumably then they will convey what they want to say, so the burden of the call is on them. I just have a hard time figuring out when to say stuff as well as what to say during any call.

No they asked for me by name. And it was the people who DID do the insulation Collective short term memory loss? Or maybe they really, really liked you and want an excuse to hang around? *detects signs of incipient Mooseworship*
