Is anyone watching the current edition? Is there any possible imaginable reason to watch it?

The traditional one: to comment to other people about the songs. And the sets. And the costumes. And the things the announcers say.

I have been more into it this year than previously. Really enjoyed the first semifinal. Mostly just missed someone to watch it with as it really is a social event. Preferably with drinks and snacks. We were sadly left without last year, but thank goodness the film came out exactly when it was needed the most. Since then I have wanted nothing as much as an Alexander Lemtov spin-of.

'Tis the final.
Discussions appear to be happening elsewhere though.

I watched the voting. I gather to win the contest, you have to have a bare chest.

Or, have a song lots of people like?

I didn't think the actual song came into it. The costumes, the sexual undertones, the performance, the proximity of the voter to a neighbouring country, confirmation of a performer's sexuality as in Dana International. For example Cyprus always votes for Greece and vice versa.
I agree it used to.

Sigh. Okay.
While the "political voting" has reduced a lot in the past decades, it is still there, as in the extreme example of Cyprus and Greece. Generally this "buddy system" is limited to 2-3 countries, and as such will give you a token number of points. The fact is that Greece and Cyprus frequently also put up pretty decent, catchy, popular songs with a good stage show (and yes, choreography, costuming and charisma IS and should be part of the live performance) which gets them enough votes also from completely unaffiliated countries to put them comfortably mid-range or even doing pretty well. The truth is that to get into the top 10 you have to get at least some points pretty consistently from almost all the countries. And to get no points at all you actually only have to be uninteresting enough that you don't make the top 10 in ANY country. I know the UK got votes, I voted for it myself. But not enough to break that magical barrier to be in the top 10. There is no concerted effort or movement or even mood to NOT vote for the UK, or Spain, or Germany, they just were boring, or forgettable, or silly (but not in a good way), and lots of other contestants grabbed people's attention. Every time I hear the UK press complain about political voting packs it just feels like they are bitter they don't have that one voting buddy that will give them a few sure pity points regardless of the quality of the song. Would 3 points from, say, Spain with all its British expats really have made you happier, even though you knew it was a compulsory routine rather than merited?
Honestly, if things were actually fair, the UK, Germany and Spain should not have been in the finals at all this year, as they didn't stand a chance with those entries. Had they been subjected to the semifinals like almost all other countries their embarrassment would have been over then and there and three other countries with better songs would have made it instead. Ireland, for instance. Come Saturday, you could have tuned in, no longer had had to fret about how the UK was going to do, and just enjoyed the show, and laughed at the silliness and over-the-top effects and so on. But instead songs that were not good enough to have passed though in the semis were pushed into the finals of a contest that was of extremely high standard this year. And this happens time and time again. I know why the big 5 get a free pass, but trust me, you would be better off not going automatically to the finals, especially in the long run.
