God, why do I keep feeling the urge to get up and go roaming around in the dark - which don't I ever feel it during the day? I just really want to go walking now but it's a bad idea.
It's 00.35. If I can get to near dawn I will be okay as I don't want to go out in daylight.

Is it getting to dawn there now?
What are you worried about if you do go out walking at night? What do you think will happen?

Could be attacked by cats. Or foxes.

Could you sublimate your desire to run, and just take the dog out for a mid night stroll?
Personally, I like to walk at night when it's quiet and no people are around. But if being out at night makes you zipped and manic, it's probably not a great idea.

When I lived in the dorms on top of the mountain in Japan, I would go out and walk down a bit and look down at the lights of the town and cars below whenever I felt lonely or sad. Somehow the darkness was soothing and the lights in the distance a distraction. At the same time it was also a moment of contemplation and sometimes harsh realisations. If that's something you can deal with right now, I'd say go for a walk and clear your head.
