Not quiet here. If I didn't have the radio on (internet radio from the Australian Open tennis) I'd have music.

Meanwhile, how is Col? I see on The Other Place that he was trying to get emergency help. Hospital visit?

He managed to get a hospital appointment and they referred him to his GP. He'd been trying to get a GP appointment for two weeks but they were always booked up wheenever he managed to get through. The hospital doctor apparently messaged the GP saying he HAD to be seen today no matter what.

My experience of GPs over the past few months, and more generally the past several years, is that they are so constrained in resources (thanks, government) that they have all sorts of mechanisms to limit the number of appointments. Even if that excludes the most needy people.
You need to get through their barriers, which hopefully is what the hospital have helped with.
I saw my GP (well, a GP at the practice) and pointed out that I see a different person every time (this is for chronic headaches) and different doctors give conflicting advice. So she made me a repeat appointment with her 2 weeks later, and then another follow-up, and finally we are getting somewhere.

Yeah - Col's GP made him a repeat appointment in a month even though officially they don't do that (they've done it for me before so I told him that they would under certain circumstances)
They put him on happy pills. So far he is not happy.

*sigh* I'm sorry to hear getting proper treatment is so difficult. Did they even offer treatment other than pills?

The NHS has a fairly obstructive approach to getting proper treatment, mainly I suspect because they are chronically underfunded. You have to go through the "easy" options (take these pills, OK now try these other pills) before moving on to others.
Jo ... has Col looked at IAPT? It might vary with region but down here you "self refer" for NHS therapy, you don't need a GP referral.

What is IaPT?

It's NHS "Improved Access to Psychological Therapies" or something like that. I bet the rules vary from one region to another, although we can hope. The regions I know of say you don't need a GP referral, you "self-refer". [Looking back I see I already said this bit!] But it's still NHS which means they are under-funded and you have to wait. What normally seems to happen is you register online, they (after some weeks perhaps) they contact you to book a time for a phone consultation, which you then have, and it's more of a quick screening. Then you get assigned to the actual service and you get around 10 weekly sessions at a therapist - I think you get some choice over who. This might be good for Col. NHS England » Adult Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme - not very useful itself A bit of research confuses me ... Here we have Talking Therapies Services | Redbridge NELFT | Redbridge Family Services Directory which goes to IAPT behind the scenes. But from what I see it's called First Step | Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust in North Cumbria (are you north not south Cumbria?), and doesn't obviously mention IAPT but it might be the same thing. There's a self-referral link in there, anyway.

He is seeming a counsellor of sorts but it's not through the NHS. He does have a referral to First Start - so do I but I've never heard anything from them. I think he enjoys the counselling.

I thought he would. Whereas I expect you would find it incredibly daunting (to get started, at least).

Thank you for asking! I’m doing well. I was stressed tonight so I played with that Kinetic Sand. A blue color. Marco Polo’d my sisters all evening while doing it. (Marco polo is an app) If you have not played with that sand it’s really a very wonderful stress reliever!
I also made some apricot tea which always helps.
