I totally agree about pasta sauces. I never buy ready made, too sweet and gloppy. I always make my own - it's so much cheaper and really easy.

Besies, why would you pay $3.00 for a jar of glod when you can pay 1 dollar for the same volume of pure tomatoes, to which you can whatever vegetables and seasoning you like? It's basic cheapskate math!

mine too!
I prefer to use canned tomatoes for pasta as not only is it loads cheaper but it tastes better as well IMO. That said, I don't tend to mind the pre canned stuff

Most importantly, plain tomatoes mix better with red wine than the pre-canned stuff does. This is a VERY important quality!

I heartily agree with the pasta sauce one! There is not much in this world that is worse than sugary tomato anything. (Although I really do want to try tomato soup cake, out of morbid curiosity.)

My sister makes tomato soup cake. It is fabulous. But doesn't taste at all of tomato. It tastes like ...well, cinnamon, mostly.

I"ll keep it in mind, though DG loves it so if we ever have any he is usually the one eating it.
I did remember another food I don't like, it's a dish actually. My mum makes it and everybody else in my family loves it but for some reason I think it is most foul. It's pasta with potatoes and onions. I like all the individual ingredients but somehow the dish is just gross!

pasta and potatoes? Never heard of such a thing! I don't know if I'd be much of a fan either. So much starch in one dish!
