I'd be interested to get Alan's take as I know he was an admirer of hers Yes, but I get the impression that he is not over enamoured by the Coalition. All I can say is rest in peace. I owe her so much. When she came into power I was a public service worker in a hospital. We had asked the previous Callaghan government for a pay rise in line with the 17.5% inflation rate. We were turned down flat. By the time Mrs. T left office I had a degree and a real future. I was one of the ones who thrived. But I honestly acknowledge there were others ( particularly the Scots ) who had a very different experience. So all I say is rest in peace. ( oh yeah - Cameron can kiss my butt )

Hiya Alan I like that you acknowledge that whilst you did good for some people, she did not for all. I wish that the people who hate her could do the same. Yeah, some people did well. A lot of people didn't. But it's one of those things that ultimately there never can be any real agreement on.

Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead enters chart at two. This shows how trivial-minded many things have become these days! I never liked Margaret Thatcher in many ways and I was glad when she was hounded out of office but, as far as I was concerned, my interest in her ended there. If I was given the choice over who's turn it was to die, she wouldn't have even been on the radar, and there are far more deserving people.

Maybe you would have felt differently if your life and your family's lives were ruined by her policies. Many people's were. She pulled the rug from under their feet and did nothing to help them. I can understand their bitterness.

Is anyone enamoured of Cameron? The problem is, what is the alternative? Ed Milliband? I wouldn't have thought so.

I agree, when I think of our current political leaders, I'm in a pit of despair. Vince Cable is the only person who gives me hope.

Central London is going to be interesting on Wednesday with all the road closures and the fairly realistic threats of counter-demonstrations.
(Perhaps I ought to mention that I am working in London?)

I can understand their bitterness. I think I was to young to fully appreciate what she did at the time. I know that before she was prime minister, she was the person responsible from taking away the free milk we had each day at school. Cameron seems to be doing the same rug-pulling act now! What is so bad about it is that it's not one person doing these things, but many people voting it through, even though they are supposed to be representing our best interests.

You can always ask Schwarzenegger to emigrate to the UK. I heard he did great things in the US. Or Palin? You are quite a joker. Actually, we could do a lot worse with Boris Johnson, current Lord Mayor of London.
