There was a Christmas party at Downing Street last year, when no-one else was allowed to have one. Truly it is one rule for them and one for the rest of us. The fact that Boris claims he knew nothing about it is really tickling me though - he's essentially saying that there was a party in his own house but he is so disliked that no-one invited him. I think I'd prefer to have just admitted that I was there.

Well yes, but you're a real living person, with human emotions and values.

Downing Street. Is that something special?

It's the British equivalent to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, in Washington, DC. The residence of the highest elected official in the nation.

Well, the address of the head of state from another country is not always at one's fingertips. For example, if I made reference to 24 Sussex, non-Canadians might not immediately know what I was talking about.
Plus, I didn't know the actual address of the White House either.

I'm wondering who lives at 1598 and 1602 Pennsylvania Avenue.

I'm wondering who lives at 1598 and 1602 Pennsylvania Avenue. I doubt that 1602 even exists, as the residence takes up the entire block, but you made me look on Google Maps. The structure to the east, at 1500 Pennsylvania, NW, is the US Treasury Building. The structure to the west of the White House is the Eisenhower Executive Office Building at 1650 Pennsylvania, NW. Both of those structures are on the same plot of land, the White House grounds, which Pennsylvania Avenue does not continue through, but skips over. The first non-governmental building to the west, at 1700, is a multi-purpose commercial building that holds a parking structure, a bank, and a grilled cheese sammich outlet. On the east are Pershing Park, the White House Visitor's Center at 1450, and the Washington Hotel. 10 Downing Street is on a cul-de-sac, is it not?

Now I know the PM residence address! I went on to Google Maps and checked it out. I'll say that it looks like a very nice river view to the west across the Ottawa River. What I found curious is that although the residence is in Ontario, the province immediately to the west of Quebec, the view is to the west, across the river into Quebec. Akin to the Panama Canal running NW to SE across the isthmus.
