I had Chinese and felt like living dangerously and trying something new for a change. Anyway, I asked the guy on the phone if he could recommend something with beef and chilli and/or whatever else of that nature. He recommended Szechuan beef so I obligingly ordered it.
Well it was very good ... hot enough to satisfy my liking for chilli but not so hot as to be unpalatable. The beef was battered and crispy which I was not expecting but it was nice anyway. I coupled it with some plain noodles and it worked very well.

Ah...yes, Szechuan Beef. Most excellent. Almost Szechuan anything. It usually means that the dish has been cooked in chili oil after being dredged in spiced batter.

It might be my new default for a while. Or, perhaps I should push the boat out next time too and try something totally different again?

Were it me, I'd go with something I'm sure I liked....until I felt the need to explore again. All good in time.

I normally have sweet and sour or lemon chicken, sometimes a chow mein. But whilst these are nice, sometimes it's good to branch out.
They'be got a scallop dish on the menu that looks interesting - I've never had scallops - but it's quite a lot more expensive than the regular dishes

There is nothing awry in having one of the soups. Chow mein never did anything for me. That's what we'd have when my parental units bought the stacked tins of a Chinese meal. For home preparation, y'know. Over the crunchy noodles. Anyhoo...Once I'd tasted the Szechuan, and then the Henan, both with their spicy flavors, I left the standard Cantonese Chinese food that used to be the only thing available in the US.
Scallops are great. They're one of my favorite shellfish. Here they come in various sizes; I tend to prefer the medium. They do reduce in size while they are being sauted.
Warning though...If you've three cats in your house, do not leave your scallops unguarded. Not for a moment. My Hobbes would climb my leg to get at scallops, raw or cooked. Went nucking futz. He was rude about it.
