Say you had to make a three course meal for a bunch of people, using stuff entirely out of tins. Do you think you could make anything edible and if so, what would it be?

Treacle sponge, Treacle sponge and Treacle sponge.

Hm...
Well the soup course would be easy. A couple of cans of good broth, some tomatoes, mushrooms, baby corn, whichever other veggies you like that aren't gross when canned, voila!
You could also have a nice appetizer plate with various kinds of olives and pickles and maybe some smoked oysters or mackerel.
I'd avoid tinned meat for the main course because that tends to be pretty obviously "from a can" tasting, but maybe something with seafood? You can get tinned lobster in the freezer section, does that count? But you still have tuna, salmon, oysters, shrimp etc .. I sort of enjoy chinese vegetables in tins, bamboo shoots and water chestnuts, for example, are quite tasty and really very crunchy still. You could make a seafood stir-fry quite easily.
And what about doing something with the good, thick, quality kinds of canned chocolate syrup and a couple of tins of black cherry pie filling for dessert?

I hadn't remembered tinned fish ... yeah you can get good quality tinned salmon, I suppose, and maybe some other types.

I could probably make something to eat if I had to, but I'm more of a freezer storage person. Canned goods are mostly for post-apocalypse purposes.

Is this an exercise in thinking or is it for some other reason? And if so, is there any reason why it MUST be ingredients from a tin (zombie apocalypse, maybe?) or are other non-perishables allowed? Dry pasta, for example?

A tin of french fries is the closest I can get to palatable potatoes in a tin.

"What do you mean, 'BLEEEEECCCCCK!'?" "I don't like Spam!" ... and so on. Seriously though, I think I'd have to agree with tangent's post above!

Am going to the spam museum next month. So excited! www.spam.com/spam-101/the-spam-museumI think my favorite canned dish ever is green bean casserole: A couple cans of green beans mixed with a can of mushroom soup, topped with a can of french fried onions. Yummeh!

We just get beans from tins and tomatoes for sauce or pizza. And corn.

I tend to find that once a conversation degenerates to Monty Python, it never comes back. So I try and limit my Pythonism to one derailment a day. (and I already spent mine on the dead parrot sketch yesterday!) Though... ...today *is* a new day! So... Have you got anything without spam?

Has anyone been able to find a palatable tinned potato? Never had one. It just sounded alright for a three course meal.

Tinned potatoes tend to be very waterlogged, in my experience. It warns on the can to not put them in a deep fryer, but I'd be interested to see what happened.
