That actually does sound as though they were gay, yes... I was not familiar with that verse.
KE yes - the palace PR machine is really working overtime. Even journalists who were previously critical of Charles are saying that they were wrong. He's surfing on a tide of nostalgia for his mother right now and the tabloids will beef him up.

I'm friends with quite a few Welsh Independence types (a growing movement - you'd be surprised) who are pretty disgruntled that the title 'Prince of Wales' is automatically bestowed, without ever considering whether Welsh people want a Prince. Actually to be fair it's not just independence types. I think a lot of people here are questioning the status quo.

KE yes - the palace PR machine is really working overtime. I wouldn't call it the palace PR machine. The palace is hardly capable of influencing the media, except by reenacting centuries of royal protocol. It is the BBC, the right-wing papers and Conservative MPs who are influencing the nation and they claim to be mirroring their mood. And it's palpably true that the nation - with the possible exception of the Welsh - genuinely feels the grief of the Queen's death even if there is a minority who do not. Every one of today's papers, with the exception of the Guardian, devotes the whole of their front pages to photographs of the mourners, the Guardian adding a one-third section on the war in Ukraine. Even the Daily Star!

Tabloids mirror things, make up, ect.,all the time. Probably why I don’t pay much attention to it. Since I’m nit over there we get as much news or talk about it as you do. I can’t speak for other states in my country just my own area.

Steve - many years ago, before William and Kate were married, I remember a Daily Mail columnist remarking off hand in one column that Clarence House had asked her to be kinder about Kate. Since then, I have assumed, and I suspect correctly, that the tabloids are often briefed and told which line to take.

Posts on same sex couples moved to a new thread, Same sex couples in the Bible, because they are on a different topic from Transitions in Royalty.

Thank you Tangent, not that the topic really interests me in any way and I doubt Kye and WG will further talk about the subject. Much less me even going to post on it.
Moose, I’m sure they are. Tabloids do that all the time. My friend, who gave up journalism, basically told me news will be skewed because they tell journalist what to say. They always tweak the truth to make it what they want. She was hired and was told this by crew and needless to say she left and never looked back after a couple months of being told to lie. Well I think I remember her trying another news agency and had the same result.

Wow. I decided to turn on BBC since no one here shows anything on this right now. I see a line of thousands of people going to see the Queen. I would never stand or walk in a line for 24 hours to see someone I don’t know. Much less 10 minutes.

This Queue think rather cracks me up. I keep thinking of phone call volumes at a call center.

I'm not a royalist, but I enjoyed watching some of the pageantry on TV today. More interesting than the usual TV fare these days, though not the sort of thing I'd want to watch very often.

I watched a chunk of the funeral but it was a bit heavy.

I found the journey along the final one-mile road up to Windsor Castle the most interesting. Lots to see and some intelligent information from the commentators. Was anyone else waiting for the orb to roll of the coffin when it was taken up the steps into St George's Chapel? It was only later, during the commital service we found it had a spike on the bottom to hold it in position.

I was pretty sure the orb, sceptre and crown were very firmly fixed on.
That said ... I was kind of hoping for some drama like a pall-bearer stumbling. Or a pigeon pooping on it.

That’s funny. A pigeon poop.
I tried to see it but I think I did a total of maybe 5 minutes in passing. 20 second spurts like a peep show as I switch channels or worked on stuff. I just got too bored with watching people walk.

This is what television is for. I'm sure that by watching the event on television, I will prolly get a better, clearer, longer, view of everything than I would if I stood in some queue, wondering why in the world it had so many silent letters.

🤣 We agree on that note. But the silent letters would not be on my mind until you mention it. My feet would be on my mind. Or the person in front of me might be worrying about my wheel chair a brought along so I would worry about my feet. Or something like that. . 😝

I am not a royalist but I was interested. Ten hours would have been a bit much though.
Apparently that coffin weighed five hundred pounds - and that was before adding the Queen (though frankly I don't suppose she weighed much).

Am I the only one who has always found that crown a bit - vulgar, btw? Even leaving aside that many of the stones do not belong to this country

Even leaving aside that many of the stones do not belong to this country In what sense do you say that? There are claims the Koh-i-Noor diamond was stolen but those claims have been rejected. It would appear that the diamond was stolen by the Maharajah of Lahore. Does that mean it couldn't legitimately be included in the treaty? I guess it depends on what you mean by 'ownership'. However, the Koh-i-Noor diamond does not form part of the Imperial State Crown. Quotes are from Wikipedia.

Who knows. It’s be so long that I really didn’t think it matters anyway where a diamond comes from. Or I guess I don’t care much.
Ever heard the phrase not my monkey not my circus. I run my life that way. 😂
