This Matteson's stuff will keep till well into 2023 apparently. Not what one could call fresh but it IS tasty. Smokey. Oh? Then cured, most likely. That 'smokey' description tends to go with cured meats. Here, in the US, we have a variety of 'spiced frankfurters' which everybody I know calls 'Smokies'. They are even noted for having miniature ones which can be wrapped in dough and cooked into savory snax. I suppose one could eat them uncooked, but they are usually baked or braised.
