If there was a fire, what do you NEED to rescue, right now?

Other: paper documents like passport and insurance details.

Good call on that 'other' selection, tangent. Though, the kids would come even before those things in my case.

If I have 3 kids do I have to pick #1 three times? I don't even know all the rules of my own poll!

My kids are grown up and can take care of themselves.

Yes me too, scans of my passport. And since we had to provide literally every important document ever for DG's visa application and we made a scanned copy of what we sent I should have everything on email. I would take myself and DG first. And then I really have no idea. Probably some shoes and jacket so I could stay warm if we're stuck outside and probably the laptop as it has so much stuff on it.

Today my kids are elsewhere, and could probably rescue themselves by their age anyway. So pets and some computer stuff. As long as my external hard drive works I have my photos scanned.

Interesting how so many people would be sure to rescue their hard drives!

I must get an external hard drive. My tower takes ages to unplug and is a bit heavy to lug around.

I can plug mine into my tv and watch stuff from there.

I need a tv that is less than 20 years old so I can do stuff like that, too!

So could my parents, but they still bought a bigger one, because they could read them even better on a bigger screen I thought it was nonsense, but hey: free new TV. I'm not complaining.

Well we do have a portable 'safe' which holds insurance policies and wills. That would take priority after living tissue.

What I'd want to save is old photos, computer and external hard drive (for newer photos) and my journals. But those items are so scattered around the house and buried in piles of things that I doubt I'd get much together before I had to leave.
When I was in high school I used to worry about a fire and losing my school work. I would email copies of my papers and tests to myself so that even if the house burned down, I'd still have them. I don't think I was more paranoid then than I am now (which is not very much at all) but those assignments represented hours of work, and they hadn't been turned in yet, so if I lost them I'd need to do them again. I don't have anything like that at home now - all my work is at work.

Pets first. Husband too - I suppose I'd make sure he was OK. And then, knowing me, probably something totally random, like toothpaste or something. Then I'd want to go back for computer, photos, car keys and my rings.

When my parents had the fire in their house, my sister's schoolwork was fine.
