I was quite impressed by him - saw him on TV the other day (at which point I loudly exclaimed 'omigod it's Steve!'. He's a good story teller.

That sounds rather like what Elias Lönnrot did ... and he ended up writing the Kalevala which pretty much defines Finnish national identity. |

I have been a legal resident of Finland since June last year I'll have you know! :hmph:
I can understand simple to medium written Finnish and very simple (slooow) spoken Finnish.
Haluaisin varata ajan. Sopiiko huomenna kello yksitoista kolmekymmentä? - Actual conversation yesterday. I would like to book an appointment. How about tomorrow at 11:30?

I can't make heads or tails of Finnish. That doesn't happen very often with a strange language for me. Possibly because Finnish isn't an Indo-European language. Hungarian and Estonian are Finno-Uralic languages - and I think Basque is something else altogether - but pretty much everything else from Sanskrit through Latin, Greek, French, German and the other major influences on English are all Indo-European. |
