It's Freeforum's way of making money and paying for the site. YouTube is plugging a premium service without adverts too. The forum owner has always had the option of paying to remove ads for the whole forum but I guess they are a bit more intrusive now.

As a point of (possible) interest, I use the uBlock Origin Firefox extension (also available for other browsers I think) - and I don't see any adverts.
But is it ... as you have suggested on F******k ... time to look at a different host?

Another downside of freeforums.net is the tracking they add to any links you insert.
For example WG's Brexgrets link results in this on my laptop:
If you don't have ad blocking software you probably won't notice this. All Viglink does is give money to the site owners in returning for harvesting our data. If you don't mind being tracked, there's not necessarily anything wrong with this. But I don't think it's good.

I have ad blocking and, yes, I get the same warning message as do you when I click on the link. I also then click on the override button to see the piece posted.
JoeP is asserting that freeforums.net is 'tracking'....Tracking what? And, to what end?
If I've posted an article about regrets on Brexit in the UK, will those tracking it now attempt to sell me a Brexit of my own at a sharply reduced price? Or, will I get others' regrets?

It depends on whether your local town is selling brexits. But if they are, it will be a bargain.

I haven't seen any Brexit sales in this region, but then, I didn't know to be on the lookout for it. And, I don't really get around all that much.

What isn’t tracked these days. I really don’t do a lot on these places and this is the only place I frequent with Facebook even less than here. I rarely mess with social media for which I’m not getting into on that subject. Besides, I only have Facebook and it’s kept with very general info these days.
