I have not set foot out of the house for nearly a year but I really want to so .. I ordered a pop up tent yesterday. Idea is that I can go out into the garden and Col can too (he hates the sun so it will be good for him . I was thinking of taking books and snack foods and cushions etc and .. just seeing how it went

I like the idea! Just don't try to have a barbecue in the tent

Excellent idea. Just don't try to have a barbecue in the tent ... or light a Primus stove inside that overheats, shoots out flames and threatens to blow up.

Nice idea. Tents are nice if it isn't raining.

When I was camping with the scouts, we used to find 10% of the tent pegs were lost every trip. Every time a tent was erected and dismantled, the elves would steal 10% of the pegs. If you ever come across an elves hide, I reckon you'll find a treasure trove of tent pegs of all descriptions. That's why, if you visit a camp site in Wales, almost every tent is held in place with large stones from the nearby dry stone walls.

LOL I bet the people who maintain the walls - it's an ancient skill you know - really love that

Most of them were in disrepair anyway a bit like the tents in the field.
We lent our tent to a neighbour and told them to take extra tent pegs. They camped on a campsite in Anglesey and one night there was a force ten gale. They woke up in the morning to find that their's was the only tent left standing!

Finally used the tent about twenty four hours ago - I went outside!! Sat in the back garden for a bit then went into the tent with Col. Only spent an hour or so there but this was a year or so since I'd been out of the front door so it was cool.
Only criticism is that the so called 'pop up' tent did not really 'pop up' in the way that it promised but then .. I sort of expected that.

That sounds good. A pop-up tent? It took us at least half an hour to erect a small tent when I was in the scouts, with three dozen tent pegs.

It claimed to pop up. Part of it even did. Col had to wrestle with the rest . We have not yet attempted to pop it DOWN.

Well sort of They claim it's very easy to collapse and put away

We have something like a pop up tent, but small and open at the front. We used ot at the beach a few years ago, but once it almost knocked me out when I was taking it out of the bag and it popped up, with part of the metal frame hitting my cheek bone with full force. Luckily, it didn't hit our little boy.

I've been out a few times and am vaguely contemplating doing so again. The thing is I just don't want to have to interact with people and my neighbours are generally out there during the day with their small granddaughter. The other thing is - they are very nice people (I talk with them on facebook sometimes) but I am just not able to talk in person right now. For this reason I tend to go out very, very early early.

but I am just not able to talk in person right now. Have you considered wearing all black, with goat horns, and a kitchen knife covered in tomato sauce? Neighbours would probably avoid talking to you.

I am just not able to talk in person right now. Have you tried taking one of the cats out with you, and holding them in front of you to act as an interpreter?

If you're in contact with them on FB, can't you just ask them there not to talk to you outside because you're not feeling well and going outside is actually challenging enough in itself?

I actually missed these posts sorry. No, I'd feel bad to ask people not to talk to me, it would be odd.
I have not been out since July as the zipper on the tent - cheap crap - broke so I could not zip it up anymore. I've bought another one since but not even opened the packaging.

Zippers are dodgy things. Yes, but they are usually easier to deal with than hooks and eyelets.
