The summer solstice in the northern hemisphere is defined as the time when the north pole is at its greatest angle towards the Sun, which is at 3:57pm today, 21 June (UK time) or 12:57am on 22 June in Melbourne, Australia. It would appear Australia's shortest day depends on the time zone.
