If I want to make a phone call, I'm so used to picking up the main phone or using a mobile that I forget to use Skype. It's a mistake not to because Skype is far superior. It is clearer than a normal phone, I can hear in both ears, I can write or type while I'm talking, I can adjust the volume, Skype tells me the duration and the cost is lower. The only snag is that I sometimes forget to plug in the microphone or position it in front of my mouth.
Does anyone else use Skype as a matter of course?

I only use Skype for the free video calls I can make to my parents and such. Never used the actual dialing a telephone.

I don't use it half as often as I should. I never seem to turn it on unless I have previously arranged to have a call with someone, so ... basically, not at all.

We currently use Skype through our normal phone line for all our long distance calls. But I'm not sure if that program still works for new customers. I know we're grandfathered in somehow, but to what extent I don't know. It's super handy, though. I have local numbers I can call at home and one I can call in England and from there I can call anywhere I want using Skype's rates. I've always found the sound quality very good, and much better than when I used calling cards for a brief time in Rome.
We've never really set up our home computer for Skype, though, because before I went to Rome we had dial-up internet and after I got back we switched to Ubuntu Linux and I've had a hard time getting microphones to work with that. Plus, the phone is just much handier. If I need to be on the computer and the phone at the same time, I put the phone on speakerphone on my desk next to the computer.
I wish I had a headset at work, though, because some days I get lots of calls and need to look things up to answer questions, and the phone keeps sliding off my shoulder.

I recently got a computer-free Skype phone. It works like a cordless phone, but the base unit is plugged into my home network. It was marked down to £30 from £99. It does not get a huge amount of use at present, but it far more convenient to use when I don't want to mess about turning the computer on and fiddling about with the Skype application.

I'm like Miisa. I just never turn it on unless I have arranged it with someone and that happens very rarely.
