I'm off to the US in April - my middle son wants to see the total eclipse, and my other half has always fancied New York (less so me, I'm not really a city person but I'd go anyway). The path of the total eclipse goes over Niagara, so I think we'll be heading there as well. Currently in the planning stages 😁
Never flown that far before. I'm not afraid of flying, but I often get horribly travel sick on planes, so I'm not looking forward to a longer flight.
Any recommendations for must-see things in the city or the Niagara/ Buffalo area? I've heard there's quite a large body of water there 😜 but apart from that

Well, NYC is the center of the western world. I'm personally with you on this, but if anywhere in the US, or the western world, would have almost anything, it will be in NYC.
My wife was born and raised in and around NYC and my MIL lived in midtown Manhattan when we visited. NYC is a melange of cultures and scents, but for me it is too many people in one place at one time.
My suggestion to you is to find those art offerings, museums and galleries and the like, and take in those which interest you the most.
As for Niagara, see the falls, they're a natural wonder for sure. And, yes, they are between two big bodies of fresh water, both legitimate members of the Great Lakes. But, as far as I'm concerned, one huge body of water pretty much looks like any other huge body of water....a very large and flat gray horizon.
I, too, can suffer with motion sickness, but it has never happened for me with air travel. Usually, it is surface water travel, like ferries across the Irish Sea or the North Sea. In those instances, I usually arm myself with dimenhydrinate (aka Dramamine) as a preventive. Have you tried such?

Congrats. Can’t wait to see the pics. Been awhile since I’ve been that direction.

I've been to New York ... about 30 years ago.

Never been. I am also not a city person but I guess that for a short break it might be fun

MOMA, The Met, Whitney, and Guggenheim would be my picks. Maybe a Broadway show, if you're into that sort of thing.

Agreed. 5th Avenue for me too when in NY.
But while here in Houston, before I started my new journey, I went to the Galleria mall. Place is so huge. I did buy myself something frivolous for the hell of it.

Niagara Falls is tacky central! I lived not far from there as a child and loved it. When I was about 7 years old. After that it kinda paled.
