Last night, a tornado tore the roofs off a couple of houses in Stalybridge, a town just six miles from where we live, as the crow flies. BBC articleI say "as the crow flies" but I haven't seen any crows since we left the EU. I think they've all gone. On Tuesday, I patched up our fence - four fence panels had been blown down - but fortunately, last night's storm left our fence relatively intact.

I saw a crow in London yesterday. And we have lots in Finland.

I read about this. It's not unheard of but it's rare in this country.

It was worryingly close to where we live.

Apart from a close call with a tornado, we have been very fortunate with the weather so far this Winter.

It's not as cold as it could be but it's not brilliant either. At least we have heating. I remember spending two winters without any because I was too scared to have anyone out to fix the boiler.

Yes, I remember that very well. It was before you had Colin to snuggle up to.

Even more than snuggling up with, he was able to deal with engineers when I found it tricky and only did it when I absolutely had to on threat of legal action. I had to have a mandatory gas service once a year but it kept going off again (later on someone doing a service taught me how to fix it, though he did says that I wasn't really supposed to).

We're without heating for 3 weeks due to the extension that's being built, but it's really annoying. It's doable despite the minus degrees weather, but I'm glad it's a short term thing. Couldn't remember the last time I had to wash my hair in a bucket with water boiled by a kettle. How did you keep the pipes from freezing, Jo?

Living in a block of flats - with district heating at a flat-rate cost - is so relaxing in this regard. No worries about the temperature inside.
Even when they decided to remove and replace the windows when it was -14°C.

Looks like my world. You all are not used to tornadoes. Here it’s like is the siren going off, look outside. Nope. All good. 😂 The weather tracks them and tells us where they are going and we know how to read wall clouds really well here.

It's true, a tornado is a major event.
