I found a spider scurrying in my mug when I tipped a spoonful of coffee into it. It didn't seem to like the interruption to its sleep. Nevertheless, I scooped it out and threw it into our passageway, which already has lots of spiders' webs. I wanted it to feel at home.

How large was the spider?

Not very large, an inch across, although it didn't stay long enough to be measured.

I have a spider living under my desk. I've not seen her for a while but I know that she is still there as the web continues to grow.

Our pupils have to clean the classrooms themselves (happens at private schools). Most pupils of my class have been refusing to do so lately, and the spiders are slowly taking over.

That sounds a bit dodgy. What about food that's been dropped? Does the school have any problems with other insects?

Is this still the same one though? Surely they can't live that long?

Most spiders in the UK live outside only for one year but inside they can live for two or three years.

Oh, that's way longer than I expected.

I haven't seen Gloria in a while but I am monitoring changes in her web.

I got rid if ine in the staff room recently because it was very close to where I usually sit. My colleagues didn't want me to, but they didn't remove it either.

I found that if you pick up a spider with one leg and drop it out of the bedroom window, it reappears two days later with only 7 legs

We used to have a seven legged spider in the bathroom. I assume one of the cats got to it

I found spiders can function quite happily with only six legs. (When I say 'happily' I don't have any evidence that it was happy, but it did survive.)

We had an open day. Classroom has been cleaned. Btw, rhe pupils are told to do some of the basic cleaning during the break if it gets too bad, like putting a bin liner in the bin or sweeping something up.

*resists pulling off Gloria's legs one by one to see how many she can get on without, as is not that type of person*

I would like to add that I did not deliberately pull off a spider's legs.
