I bought something that styled itself as a meatfeast sub roll from the supermarket earlier as it was reduced in price. I am not sure what's in it - it seems to have a lot of spicy meats, a lot of tomato, some cheese and some sort of tomato-ey sauce - but it's delicious and big enough that it will last for tomorrow as well. SO here, in its honour, is a sandwich appreciation thread. Post your favourite.
I do like a good chicken mayo with tomato and onion..

Tuna salad on sourdough.
Braunschweiger with a strong mustard on pumpernickel.
and of course, PB & J. Smooth PB, because crunchy is just wrong.

pumpernickel is that dark stuff isn't it? Not my thing I had some sour dough not long ago tho and it was surprisingly nice

It this thread only for cold sandwiches, or are we also allowed hot ones?
Favorite cold: Turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, lettuce, mayo. There's probably a name for that.
Favorite hot: Ruben

The Sandwich Man, a guy that visits our offices with luncheon products, does a rather fine chicken and bacon roll. The bacon is in bits, all crispy, and there is a tendency for the bits to fall all over your desk. Which is not a bad thing.

I am normally more of a toast person than sandwiches, but when I do make them, I like to make corned beef with home-grown mustard (the plant, not the weird yellow goop). I expect most here would think that was either horrible or dull.

My favourite is one I make myself with medium rare sliced beef and tomato on seeded brown bread.

We don't buy a lot of bread but fried egg and egg and cress are favourites. Oh also in summer, salad.

Germans aren't really sandwich people. We do have breadrolls wich might have a bit of lettuce and tomato with the cheese, but people who make their own usually just have a slice of cheese or salami and some butter. Horribly dull. I like sandwiches with cheese and tomato with mayonaise and Frank sometimes makes bacon and fried egg sandwiches, occasionally we have them with chicken as well, if we have some left over from dinner.

I love sandwiches of all types.
But I don't like mixing fish with cucumber. If I have tuna it's with tomato, onion and capers and mixed lettuce or rocket. I also like smoked salmon with cream cheese, onion and capers. Mmmmm
Roast chicken, lettuce and mayo is delicious. As is chicken schnitzel, lettuce and mayo.
There is a bread shop here that does a chicken and bacon sandwich, well roll but I count it all in the same group, I tend to go for rolls over slices of bread when having sandwiches, anyway they do pieces of roast chicken, bits of bacon, a nice mayo type sauce and lettuce and tomato. It is delicious.
And in France, baguette with butter and ham, or butter, cheese and ham is better than anything.

cashew nut butter or peanut butter (sometimes with chocolate sprinkles or sugar). Mmmmm!

Ooh yeah forgot about nutella and peanut butter. Or jam and peanut butter. Or really good butter with good strawberry jam on a delicious french baguette. Mmmmmmmmm

As mentioned before, egg on sandwich is good too. I don't often have eggs though.

Not too keen on eggy sandwiches to be honest.
Okay let's change the thread slightly .. what are the worst combos you've ever seen?
my dad bought a prepackaged marmite and pease pudding one once. He actually enjoyed it too.

Anything with mayonnaise in it!

The PBJ sounds pretty awful to be honest. And anything with cheese of course. And most non-veggie options.

I can cope with ham and cheese, but most go in far too heavy-handed with the cheese!

I personally don't like the combination of cucumber with fish, especially salmon or tuna. And some sandwiches are boring or just not done well because the bread is crappy or they sandwich is dry. But I can't really say I've ever seen bad combinations - just things I personally don't like. Goat cheese is another one.

Worst sandwich ever: a chicken mayonnaise open sandwich where the pieces of chicken had large amounts of soft, soggy skin under the mayonnaise.

hmm yes that might be bad.
I don't like sandwiches with really dry bread either. Which includes virtually all non white bread

Cucumber and bread is evil. The cucumber makes the bread turn to mush!

I like a good ham sandwich, but what's really good is a fluffernutter!

No *looks firm on this*.
I wonder why lamb isn't used in sandwiches more often? If I have cold lamb ever I do make sandwiches out of it but you don't often see lamb sandwiches for sale

Probably cos lamb is generally more expensive than pork or beef.

It's often tougher than pork or beef, though I don't know why.
