I decided to go to Weymouth, but the place I was actually going was a peninsula called Portland, more specifically Portland Bill. I have seen it many time on the map, looking like a tiny South America and always wondered what was there. Tried to find my decent camera, but had to make do with the iPhone again, which, as you can see, cannot deal with overcast days. It's like going back to my old 100ASA camera! The view back over Weymouth from Portland Heights. Nicely ruined by man-made objects in the foreground. The war memorial... a nice, respectful place to park your bicycle! The lighthouse at Portland Bill, the southernmost tip. Apparently, this place is southern enough that my phone sent me a "Welcome to France, you are now paying roaming rates" message! If you look at the map, you can see I am still safely more in England than France! The (very steep) view of the north end or Portland from the access road. Poole Harbour... Bournemouth, as viewed from High Cliffs. I was hoping to spend longer in Bournemouth, but time was getting short and I only got back to Reading 10 minutes after dark. Couldn't resist going back and having a look at Bournemouth University... I am sure it was bigger back then.

I still love the feeling of coming over the last hill and seeing the sea and beach come up into view.

When I get back to Taiwan, the ocean and beaches are also very near where we live. The problem is it tends to get so sunny and hot that not many people dare to swim: many people are afraid to have sunstroke.

Swim in the mornings or evenings then. If you've got such a great source of water near you, you are almost obliged to make use of it
