as it's quiet in here!
*lays out Scotch eggs, charred BBQ food, a rather nifty improvised ice bucket filled with beer and wine, sliced cheese and a tiramasu*

Sounds familiar, except for the tiramasu.

Is anyone here southern hemispherical at the moment? Thought not.
I need blinds AND curtains to be able to sleep.

Pippin feels obliged to wake me up as soon as he sees a speck of light on the horizon, which currently happens at a bit past three am. One of these days he will catch me in the middle of a bad dream and I will simply wring his neck.

The longest day... it's all down hill from here... Only the next 6 months... It's like a perpetual motion roller-coaster! Oh, how the people who live near the equator miss out on all the fun!

Is anyone here southern hemispherical at the moment? Thought not. I need blinds AND curtains to be able to sleep. What about a face-mask to complete the job? It's like daytime in my bedroom all year round, thanks to the street light at the end of my garden. The front is lit by a light there, too, so the bathroom is always lit up as well. You can just get out of bed and go to the toilet without any chance of not being able to see where you are going, or having to look for light switches in the dark. It has improved more recently as they have started to replace the lights with ones that mostly light the ground, rather than directly sending half their energy output into space! ...Fortunately, I can sleep through almost anything.

I found it definitely weird when I was in Mooseland that the day was so long. Light until 11, then starting up again at 3 am... I never did see the stars, although I was told they were stunning.

I was out at 1.30 last night and it was too light to see stars. Doesn't get darker than dusk in June here.

Thanks to light pollution, you rarely see the stars here. The sky normally ends up a dirty orange-brown colour.
