I know they use terms like that for the benefit of non-technical people, but it irritates me too because it also corrupts people's knowledge of how things work.

I looked up deodorant rock and found this: It's a rock of crystalline ammonium alum which is meant as a body deodorant. Not exactly a magnetic stone that removes smells. Ah, this looks more like it. Made of stainless steel. Odour removing stone
