Blade Runner (the film) is my all time favorites. But I have never read this book. I think I am going to buy this book and add it to my reading list.

I have read it, many, many years ago. As far as I remember, it was rather different from the film, so don't expect the same type of mood.

OH I know it's very different. I am interested in the question itself: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? It's intriguing.

It is, but not for the reason one might imagine without knowing the story.

I have heard the book read on the radio a while back, but I don't think I was paying enough attention to follow it. while (status.asleep) { dream(dreams.sheep); }

Is that C++?

Potentially, but it'd be better to create a dream class if you were doing it properly. ...didn't want to get too nerdy!

Shouldn't there be an if (existence.android)
in there somewhere?

In the movie, we also have doubts on Rick's humanity. What dose it take to be a human? Dose my cat have 'humanity'?

My cat does, but it's an evil human!

Shouldn't there be an if (existence.android) in there somewhere? #include "robots/androids.hpp" #include <stdio.h> android *miisa=new androidtype; if (miisa.exists()) { if (miisa.isandroid()) { while (miisa.status.asleep) { printf("Android Penguin is having dreams of Electric Sheep\n"); dream(miisa.dreams.sheep); } } } HAPPY NOW? Please note, androids.hpp is a closed-source project! This is as-yet uncompiled and anyone pointing out syntax errors will be disassembled! I haven't written any c++ in about two years and I'm not about to start taking abuse for doing it wrong!

Lol, I certainly can't threw any stones, we only did Java and that is all forgotten.

I've heard of C++ but I've never seen any written down.

I did not get the book entirely when I read it more than a decade ago, but I still think back to it and should really read it again. The book and the movie's philosophies tend to be opposed at times (though they compliment each other as well). The central themes of the book and movie however is that empathy is the aspect of the human condition that makes one, well, human. The author, Philip K Dick, got the idea while researching Nazism for his book The Man in the High Castle and realized what made the Nazis so cruel was their lack of empathy in general. It also has the other Philip K Dick themes, such as the questioning of reality, paranoia and religion.
Also note, the word "replicant" was invented for the movie.

No no no !
You can write it in C++ easily First establish all parameters as local data items. Then create a sub_script called 'dream_of_electric_sheep' which controls misa's dream functions
set lcl_misa 'android' set lcl_condition '' set lcl_row '' set lcl_col ''
search_response host 'SLEEP' lcl_row lcl_col '' '' '' '' if lcl_col <> '' call 'dream_of_electric_sleep' else goto 'no_dream' end_if
label 'no_dream'

What? I got the book in fact and am reading it in an extremely slow pace since I am multi-tasking most of the time.

Does that code take into account that I man NOT be an android?

Mine does, but I'm not sure a test is needed!

Having you been covertly Turing-testing me? I don't do well on tests!

I don't know why they've every bothered with Turing testing anything. I've never seen anything remotely close to convincing, especially once you actually try to trip it up.

Isn't the whole point of a Blade Runner replicant/android that it can fool almost anyone?

Pretty much, but that's still way into the realms of fiction.
