You'd be the first to inform us if you failed to have weather, right?

Of course! We just had a sudden hail storm. Made the sky look all yellow. It's changed to rain now though. So... no failure of weather yet.

The yellow skies, I remember those. Rarely see that here.
We also had weather. And expect to have more tomorrow.

It was supposed to rain a lot, but so far I've seen a lot of sun and now it's turning grey.

It rained while I was out and not at other times.

I want 27!
It's just grey and gloomy here today. Dry. We ended up having a pajama day.

It topped out at 34, on the back balcony, at least. I suspect that the overall official temps were about three degrees cooler.
Still...Warm for May around here.
Me? I just flee the midday sun.

Damp again.
We did get a nice afternoon sunbreak.

It's grey. It was grey yesterday. I want rain for my plants. They look like they could use it. I also want sunshine for myself. Choices, choices.

Sunny today, sunny tomorrow. The days are lovely but very chilly mornings and nights with all these clear skies. At least no rain while I go to vote tomorrow and get my democracy sausage.

I had to look up "democracy sausage". If this is what mandatory voting leads to, I'm all for it!

Democracy sausage or not, it doesn't look like it has done anything to improve the wankers who are elected....

My seat has a change of getting a Greens candidate voted in. I sure hope so!
I'm all for mandatory voting. We had polling booths in Antarctica this morning.

Mandatory voting didn't get you a change to a Greens candidate. That's like using anecdotal evidence to support your position. From what I can see from this distance, mandatory voting didn't get you anything any better than what we have here without mandatory voting: asshats in positions of responsibility.

I seem to remember communist Russia used to have mandatory voting in the middle of the 20th century, even when there was only one candidate.

Err not sure where you got that one from WG, I didn't say anything about mandatory voting leading to getting a particular candidate. I'm for mandatory voting for reasons other than what party gets in. I'm for it because it ensures everybody has a chance to vote, making it a true democracy. Like the example I put in of people voting in Antarctica.
The fact that over half of Australians are so goddamned stupid and don't give a shit about anyone and only care about a few extra dollars in their pocket, is a different kettle of fish. And also that a party can campaign on negativity and fear, and then still sleep at night thinking what a great job they did, is scary.

I got that by noticing that your national politics has not been particularly any more enlightened than here in the US, where there is no mandatory voting. The whole fecking process of making it mandatory has not improved any results, irrespective of party. I happen to think that forcing anybody to vote, under duress (the threat of fine) is an anathema to me. It flies in the face of having choice, one of which could be that they might wish to not cast their vote for any one. Mandatory voting is, in my book, a mockery of free choice. That it does not produce any better result is just more argument against mandating voting.

Ah, but you aren't actually forced to vote. You are only forced to show up. You can make an invalid vote by not putting anything on the ballot paper, or writing "you all suck", or drawing a penis etc. Which plenty of people choose to do. I think around 10% each election. It means that nobody can deny you the chance to vote because you didn't bring the right ID or because you can't get to a polling booth on election day, or because it's raining and cold outside and you don't want to go
