It's New Year in Delhi now but I understand celebrations are rather muted this year.

To me, 1st January is an arbitrary point, too close to Christmas so I don't really think of it in any special way, apart from a free day off work!

There are fireworks here, so the hospitals and fire brigade have a lot to do. In Germany, people can just buy fireworks and supermarkets and let them off themselves which can get very dangerous. Frank told me, in England people would never be allowed to buy fireworks like that because it's too dangerous.

Um, Frank is wrong. In England people can buy any fireworks they like and often do.

It may be the new year in your parts, but we're still living in the past out here in Cascadia. So's everybody in USerstan and Canuckistan.

I spent the last minute of 2012 picking up my dog's poop on our annual New Year's Eve walk.

At this point (shortly after nine pm), I don't think I'm going to make it to midnight in an upright and wakeful position. The champagne is beginning to take its toll and I'm having compulsions to close my eyes and get horizontal....
mmmm...horizontal....

Happy New Year! Going to bed early proved to be a good idea as Honey and Tinker were more easy to keep calm. I watched the fireworks for a couple of minutes as they went off in no particular order in a few places on the estate. Tinker even ended up sitting on the window ledge, watching them, near the end.

We watched the firworks, but hadn't bought any ourselves. My sister and my mother still called and by the time we managed to go to bed, it was 2 am already.

Happy New Year everyone. There were lots of fireworks and Pat says they were very noisy but I didn't hear any (my son and I were at a party at the local pub).
