The witchhazel is defoliated. It had some nice color this year...

Well, the Pineapple Express has wrought its ruin amongst the third bloom of the roses. Bud blast runs rampant. Nothing seems untouched, although some varieties try to boldly bloom, regardless.
The weeds have prevailed in the damp, too.
Today, maple whirlygig seeds are everywhere. Everywhere.

Is a whirlygig seed a bad thing?!

Is a whirlygig seed a bad thing?! It is not wanted. It is not a 'bad thing', but a natural one. The problem is that each and every whirlygig seed is a potential germination in to yet another possible sapling next spring. It might be a non-issue, did I not resent the damned tree, but brazillions of seeds shed by a tree I wish I didn't even have...well, it is just a nuisance.

It was a sunny, but cold, day. I managed to hoody up and stumble around lugging two buckets of compost to top off the rhubarb pot.

Okay....A mite ahead of schedule, but almost always my first bloom of the year....violets! In the parking strip at the street.

My daffodils and erica are also trying hard, but I'm afraid frost will kill them one of these nights.

Yeah, the daffodils shouldn't be out yet till March or late February anyway.

Snowdrops flowering in my garden. The shoots have been up for a few days, but the white flowers only began to appear yesterday. They always tend to be a little later in my garden than in other locations nearby: I don't know why that is. I saw reports on the television of some snowdrops in the UK appearing on January 1st this year.

I got my first packet of seeds in the mail today. They are mostly sweetpeas, but also two types of forget-me-nots, and a packet each of baby's breath and hollyhocks.
And...The weather forecast for next week is an extended dry and warming period, with temperatures above 50F (10C), called 'partly cloudy', and low chance of precipitation.
Sweetpeas go in next week!
I hired my neighbor to groom my front garden, so it is now all neat and tidy. Next for her is the back garden. I may start rose pruning a mite early, too, if we're to have a run of good outdoor working weather.

I snapped a couple of shots of my snowdrops. Shame about the state of the lawn, and the lack of sun. Here's the biggest bunch. There are a few smaller bunches that are still growing and not really open yet: here's one. Hmmm, they appear in the preview, but not in the post. I've tried resizing to make the files smaller, but still not showing for me. Here are some links to the resized photos. big bunchsmaller bunchMaybe it's because my website is only http, not https

Yeah...I'm not sure. I have done photos on my Android, posted them to FB, then copied the photo from FB to here. Usually no problem in the short term, but in the longer term, they end up being unviewable. I suspect it is because FB changes its protocols with their regular (or irregular, I'm not sure) 'updates' and that interferes with the posting of images.
Your 'bunches' are excellent pix.

Iris reticulata and screamin' yeller crocuses are making their presence known in the garden.

The sweetpeas are in.
I have also retained the services of my neighbor, as in the last couple of years, to 'groom' the garden. It is already looking 'spiffy' out front. All the sword ferns have been pruned back and the moss covered boulders can be seen in their full mossback glory.

Lovely snowdrops! I've yet to see those in person. I wonder when they'd flower around here. Not in January, certainly. Much too cold.

Yeah, snowdrops are early birds in these parts, which means early February, along with the violets and crocuses. Sadly, I have none in my garden.
I do have scads of iris reticulata, of varying hues of violet (reddish, dark, medium, and light pastel) mostly in my pot pots.
Another gardening day today, with the French doors ajar. It's blissful, actually. Overalls and a flannel shirt. And hat. The sun shines fiercely.
Time to finish my tea, fix and eat breakfast, bib up and get my tookis out there...

I suspect it is because FB changes its protocols with their regular (or irregular, I'm not sure) 'updates' and that interferes with the posting of images. Your 'bunches' are excellent pix. Thanks. I upgraded my website (where I hosted the photos) to use SSL: the web addresses are now https: instead of http: That seems to have fixed the problem, and the photos have now (for me) appeared in the thread. As soon as we get a bit of dry weather, I may now post some photos of my crocuses (now in bloom); daffodils (still to open); and maybe tulips and other flowers a few months from now.
