I saw it on Friday. It was nice. Nothing special --some nice effects and I saw it in 3D which I like.

Went to see Les Miserables last night. It was excellent though very long. It could do with an interval. Russell Crowe was not as bad as I expected but I thought that Alfie Boe would have made a better Jean Valjean but I am probably prejudiced.

I'm not sure I'll ever want to watch that. It sounds like there is way too much drama in it.

I saw Lincoln yesterday. I think I smelled some Oscars. And I watched Cinderella last night. It was lovely!

I saw Les Miserables and Django Unchained last weekend. Both were very good, but Django is pretty brutal in its no-holds barred depiction of slavery. Les Miserables I liked as well, but I'm not too fond of the musical's music. For every good song there's three I don't like, which is a bad thing in a three-hour musical.

I have quite a few Disney DVDs, including Lady and the Tramp. I thought about watching it yesterday, but I decided to watch some other things I had not seen yet instead.

We watched the Hobbit, not the PJ one but Ramkin Bass or whatever his name is. It was very cute. Really nice drawings, the animation was a bit clumsy but the drawings themselves were lovely. And I loved that there was loads of singing in it to tell the tale. Of course they cut out quite a bit as it's little over an hour. Maybe Peter Jackson should have watched it before filiming his three films.

I just watched Lady and the Tramp. I had actually never seen it before. Watched it with the kids recently, and realized I couldn't remember ever having seen it, either. Though, I got to thinking perhaps I had, but maybe at something close to the age of the little ones, so maybe I just didn't remember it. Mrs Shake has been talking about trying to watch, or at least have the kids watch, some more of the Disney movies in preparation for our trip next month.

I have the BBC Radio version of The Hobbit. There's a lot of odd singing in that, too.

Ramkin Bass or whatever his name is. It's Rankin/Bass, named for Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass, who started the company in the 1960s. Their best-known works (to me, anyway) are Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeeer and Frosty the Snowman, staples of my childhood TV viewing.

Saw Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris this week. What an adorable movie! An ode to Paris and writing and art. I cannot wait to see it again.

I never found them scary. I find that guy scary!
And yes, Midnight in Paris is wonderful.

He's playing a mad bum character so it can be scary. But you should see his Bum reviews of the Twilight movies, or Dark Knight Rising - they have me in tears. And his review of UP is also hilarious (but he actually likes that film as opposed to the others mentioned). Usually he's funniest when the movies are flops but sometimes a great movie like Up lends itself to his jokes. He's much less scary in his normal persona. Another movie we just saw last night at the cinema was Django Unchained. Loved that too. Fantastic music and brilliant performances.

Saw Lincoln. Well made movie, well acted, beautifully filmed, but I'm afraid it just lacks that bit, I suppose, to make it Best Picture. Also rewatched Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle. I still love Tati's movies.

I watched The Holiday. I've also been rewatching episodes of Maple Town, a childhood video of mine. Very catchy tune. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cSb1voYC3sInterestingly enough, they changed the tune of the English version. The Dutch one stuck to the original Japanese tune.

We watched Before Sunset, the sequal to Before Sunrise. If anybody hasn't seen those two films I highly recommend as they are so sweet. And the second one has lovely shots of Paris which is why we watched it, getting into the Paris mood.

On Saturday, I watched a night of horror/thriller movies with a few mates. We started with Paranormal Activity 4, then Sinister, followed by The Ward and House at the End of the Street.
Good evening and we got a takeaway in and some booze, so not bad at all.

I wanted to see Cloud Atlas, but I heard it's almost incomprehensible to those of us who are face blind. The last movie I saw at the cinema was Quartet, which I thought sucked eggs.

I just saw the trailer for the second instalment of the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire. It looks cool. Does seeing trailers count?
Oh we did recently see some nice movies though. Robot and Frank is about an aging ex thief whose son gets him a robot to help him deal with his dementia. It's interesting as it brings up issues of aging and of technology and the way humans like to humanise everything. It was really funny too.
We also saw Kick Ass, which is old, but that was kinda amusing. It is a bit dark too and depressing in some respects. On the other hand I liked a lot of the shots and thought a lot of the action was pretty original and interestingly done.
We also saw Hanna which is about a girl who is raised by her ex CIA father in the bush and has lived her whole life doing survival training and killing people. It's kind of Jason Bourneesque but with a 16yr old blond girl. Facinating and a bit evil.
Oh and we watched Silver Linings Playbook which was a lovely film. I am completely smitten by Jennifer Lawrence.

On Friday, a friend and I went and saw Oblivion which was very good, not quite what I was expecting. It also happens to be the latest* film to feature a radio made by my company (in the top of the Empire State Building, no less).
*the other one being Clear and Present Danger

That looked like it could be a nice film.
We saw Before Midnight recently. It was really good and kept to the spirit of the other films well. Nice rounding off except there was one thing I wasn't happy with but I won't spoil it for anybody who hasn't seen it and wants to.
