What is with this function?
And Karma? How do I get karma and why does Moose have five times as much? Is there karmic payola?

You can smite or exalt people a few times a day, some say once an hour, I have not checked that closely. Some people seem to like this function, I am not so sure.
But that could be because I am clearly not as popular as some people...

You're doing well in the karma department though.

It's a shame you can't see who exalted or smote you.

Yeah, I prefer the FreethoughtForum way of approving of individual posts instead. I have been on some other boards with karma points and never quite took to them.

I don't like it. I'm a sensitive soul... Sniff...

It is rather arbitrary still. You could regulate it by making the user's avatar get bigger. In the end everyone would hate them for having a massive avatar and smite it back down again.

Whenever I log in I look for a suitable victim to exalt.

So...I can't smite myself?
What? Is it considered self-abuse, or something?

Apparently you can exalt or smote once an hour

WG, did you try exalting yourself then? If self-smiting doesn't work, try self-exalting.

It's sad when you exalt yourself and end up with a karma of 1.

Is it? I'm sure most people wouldn't be bothered by that.

If you exalt yourself and end up with a karma of 1 then you are the only person exalting yourself, which is sad.

I don't think anyone can either exalt or smite themselves. Only other posters.
Am I right that exalting other posters raises their karma count? And smiting reduces their karma count? That being the case, cannot conspirators connive to raise their karma counts in unison? Or even not in unison? And, can we achieve negative karma by being multiply smote? Smited?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Do you just lose karma if someone smites you or can you actually "collect smites"?

I think it was tried on Johnny and you could only lose it.

You can go into negative I think

You can go negative yes. And WG is right in saying you can't exalt or smite yourself.

I still don't really get the point of all the exalting or smiting.

It's supposed to be feedback on the value of a person's contributions, I guess.

I never smite anyone I exalt if I remember but to be honest I am inclined to do it rather randomly
