I try to exalt at least one random(-ish) person every day, though got a bit disheartened when WG's seemed to be going down.

Heavens to Betsy, people....It's not like karma on Moose's Euroforum has any import beyond being a curiosity of the board. As has already been pointed out, it is merely another manifestation of the ol' 'popularity contest' thingee. It's not like it has a lot of meaning....real or otherwise.
Please don't intimate that at some indeterminate point in the future, the size of one's karma stash here is going to be a source of arrogance or misplaced self-importance...that would be soundly depressing.
I see I made it, briefly, to zero karma. I saw the rumor that I had, at one point, a negative number karma. If so, I'm sorry I missed seeing that. I wonder...If I have negative karma, does that mean I get to skip reincarnation entirely and go straight to nirvana?
Oh....Of those who smote me, do you feel more gooder now?
