Will you be shot by falling icicles? Birds falling frozen from the sky?

Could you employ a dog walker?

Ice and rain. Every driver's favourite combo.

Could you employ a dog walker? I don't think I could get a dog walker out for the morning shift --I walk my dog at about 6 or 6:30. Anyway the big problem is walking him in the -20's and that only happens a few times a year.

Why do you walk your dog at 6am or 6:30am? Could you not train him/her to go out at 10 o'clock or some other reasonable hour?

Nope. He gets his late night walk at 10 pm so then he needs to relieve his bladder not too much more than 8 hours later. It would be cruel to make him wait.

Yeah that would be hard on him.

No icicles around here because most of the roofs are flat And no self-respecting Canadian bird would ever fall out of the sky because it's cold! A friend on another forum, who lives in some part of Canadiastan, just reported this: [Husband] works at a funeral home and is at gravesides on the reg. Yesterday was -18C the high was -12C and snowy, windy conditions. So somewhere in between those temps, at the graveside, the family released 2 dozen white doves into the sky. He did not see that coming - he wondered what the boxes with the air holes were for. When they went up he was expecting them to freeze instantly and come down *thud, thud, thud* Dove-sicles They all disappeared though, and later he found out they return to their place, their home, their--- I dunno. But they come back to the company that supplies them and live to be released another day.

Poor birdies! But -12 is not that bad. Certainly there are enough pigeons around here who survive those temperatures.

I just figured that those pigeons survived by living over a heat vent.

Rain today. Yesterday, it was over 60 F and sunny and clear. It has alternated like that for nearly a week now.

It's -24C and sunny this morning. I worry about my dog's paws but he seems fine and the cold weather doesn't bother him at all.

You know it's winter in Montreal when it's -19C and you say to yourself "Oh yay! It's not that cold today!"

We are having clear and sunny weather, too. It is cool, though. Yesterday was a very foggy morning before clearing off. Then, with it so clear come nightfall, the temperatures plunged to below freezing, such that this morning's heavy fog manifested as a very heavy frost. It was so heavy I, at first, thought it had snowed.

When I walked the dog this morning, I wasn't too worried since I've walked him in -20 C weather often. But I wasn't 5 minutes in before I had to put the hood of my parka up because my eyeballs were starting to freeze... Apparently, factoring in the wind, it feels like -32 out there. I cut the walk short, much to the dismay of my dog who didn't seem too perturbed by the cold.

Clear, sunny, and cold. Some nights, it drops into freezing temperatures. Daytime highs have spiked at about 10C, but much of the days, with their long shadows, hover near freezing. Too cold for me to drag my sorry ass around the garden....so, I hired a neighbor to do some grooming.
