A few years ago, our town council decided not to salt the roads to save money unless it was absolutely certain to be freezing. There were a lot of accidents that year and now the council play safe

It's supposed to be sunbathing weather today, well 11°C and a cloudless sky. It's not

We had a light snow overnight, leaving a patchy accumulation of much less than an inch. It shall all disappear as soon as the sun gets higher.

Mixed snow and rain. Nothing accumulating. As you might imagine, it is cold.
ETA UPDATE: It is now snowing full on. Slight accumulations on cooled surfaces like auto windshields, shed roofs, and trash bin lids. Official temperatures well above freezing, 38 F. The back balcony temperature registers as 31 F, so it is flirting around the freezing point and the 'official temperature' does not fit my microclimate.
I think it's time to pour a peaty Scotch, torch a doobie, and ease into the rest of the day...

I awoke to some four to six inches of accumulated snow on the ground. The van is nearly buried. The official total was 10.8 inches of snow.
The felines are perturbed. Murray did a three foot foray outside the balcony door before asking to come back in. His frozen prints indicated his short trip. Cleo stuck her head out the door and then refused to exit. Suddenly, I have dedicated indoor cats.

Heh...Microclimates.
I imparted the conditions to Swimmer, who now lives in a small town about a ten minute drive beyond the urban growth boundary south of here. I'd guess the total mileage is around thirty; it is about a forty minute drive from here. She experienced zero snow at her location. I have about six inches. Six miles north of me, at the international airport weather monitor, there was nearly eleven inches of snow. Of course, PDX international airport is situated at the western end of the Columbia Gorge, a notorious source of cold air funneled into the valley from the frigid uplands of the semi-arid plateau. If you're in the draft when the moisture from off the ocean hits, you get slammed with snow.

Bright, sunny, clear, and well below freezing at midday.
The cats keep asking to go outdoors and then standing in the open doorway without exiting. It sucks the heat right out of the room. My feet are cold despite setting the thermostat higher.

Much the same today...Bright, clear, sunny, forking cold.
It is presently -4 C. It never got above freezing yesterday and everybody is eagerly awaiting the thaw. It is supposed to stay above freezing for the next several days once it warms. We'll see how much of the accumulated snow disappears over what time scale. Snow flurries as expected midweek, but temperatures won't be low enough to refreeze what is already down into ice and we won't get any additional accumulation in the near term.

The melt is on!
SLUSHFEST!
At noon today, we crossed the boundary of freezing. With the bright sun and calm winds, I can malinger on the balcony in my jammies for several minutes. The streets will prolly be clear by sundown. And, temperatures are expected to stay above freezing.
I expect all signs of accumulated snow to disappear by late Monday.
The cats have returned to expecting the door to be propped so that they can just push it open.

So, we're getting mixed snow and rain at just above the freezing point. It's basically glazing what is already down, which isn't melting because it is so close to freezing. Icy.

Rainy! Windy! Tornadoes. We had to take cover twice now but it’s finally settled down. Three tornadoes around us. One couple miles to the west. One south. One north west.

Sunny but freeeeezing.
I'm glad you're okay, KE! I guess living in a tornado prone area may make you more immune to it, but I'm not sure I'd dare put my faith in some shelters I sometimes see on the news

It can be. But I’m so used to it. We took shelter twice last night. So far 15 tornadoes have been counted in our state and more damages are pouring in. I’m so busy with claims right now with my clients that I feel like Auntie Mame on her scene with a telephone operator.

I have no experience of tornadoes and haven't a clue how scary it would be. Daytime ones don’t bother me as much as one can see these. But this many at dark is crazy. Quite a few neighborhoods have been destroyed.

Presently, we have an opening in the cloud cover which is providing passing warmth and ephemeral joy. The cats think I should leave the door ajar.
