We are getting lots of rain. And continue to have some wind.
Battens are strips of wood. I suppose hatches refer to ships, and you would nail battens across them to stop them blowing open or leaking. The landlubber equivalent might be boarding up your doors and windows.
We had a freak wind storm that started at about 5 pm, when the temperatures were in the 90s. Heavy east winds out of the Columbia Gorge, from the high arid plateau on the other side of the Cascade Mountains. Hot, dry winds gusting to 50-60 mph. Desiccating. I briefly lost power and had to spend an hour or so restarting my PC. Of course, the stiff winds blowing from east to west carried all the wildfire smoke from eastern Washington right through the gorge and spewed it into the air over Puddle City.
Added to the overcast, and the temperature, and the diffused light, sundown was....otherworldly. Portentous. Like the coming of the Vril-ya.
I suspect my new neighbors are returning from 'the Bay Area' to install and invest the new altar at the new Temple of Azathoth - PDX. That would explain the conditions....
