I went to the gym this afternoon but I didn't do any exercises. Ten lengths of the pool and the sauna were enough for me. However, I do believe the sauna accustoms your body to the hot weather we're now having.

I went into work today, the air con was on the fritz, it was a sweat box. The city centre wasn't much better.

Sorry not to have started posting earlier (you know who you are, person I'm talking to). I was out drinking after work with people from work, and others. In fact my alcohol consumption in the past 30 hours has been quite high. Today's was all due to the weather, but yesterday's was a company do at the Walkabout (chain of Aussie themed pubs) in Temple in central London. People started buying shots at 9pm ... not a good idea. But I got home at a reasonable hour and got into work this morning at a thoroughly unreasonable hour (as in, earlier than usual). Several of us were not in tip-top condition for working though. So we headed off to St Katharine Docks, a mere stumble from the office, and sat in the sun drinking beer (vodka for some) and eating (except for one of us, who was just there for the fresh air, as she's fasting for Ramadan). And saying hello to half of the company on their ways to and from other places to get lunch. That started at 12:10. At 1:45 we extended our booked period of absence from the office, and only got back at 2:30 ... whereupon we found an empty meeting room and had coffee. And discovered that at least one of us was sunburnt. By 5:20 we were back at the same bar .... and by 6:35 we were in Holborn meeting one of the group's friends gathering early for even more drinks later on. After a couple of rounds there it was all enough for me. Then on the way home I got stuck on a very warm train on a very warm Northern Line, where after a while they announced that a passenger had been taken ill at Finchley Central. And after a while longer that this train was being taken out of service (so the next one could get out of the tunnel) and we all had to change. But here I am

The underground is an absolute killer in the summer. Someone quoted a couple of years back that if cattle were transported in the same conditions, the people doing it would be prosecuted! I have no idea why the summer makes me feel so bad. I burn very rapidly and feel constantly tired, plus the muscle aches on the extreme days. Someone suggested recently that it could be something to do with atmospheric conditions that come with such weather and not the weather itself. All I know is I hate it!

Poor baby!
I love hot weather, as long as I don't have to do too much exercise in it.

Not me. I'm right there with Col. Any temperature above 75 degrees Fahrenheit (what's that about 23 C) is uncomfortable for me. As a regular circumstance my body tends to produce a fair amount of heat; more than many others, according to my wife, who loved that trait in me. I am a natural heat generator. So, when it is warm, and I am still creating warmth, it is more difficult for me to cool off and even modest amount of heat are stultifying. Combine it with high humidity and I am generally reduced to a semi-catatonic state, with higher temperatures, or higher humidity, simply compounding the problems.
This is one of the reasons I live where I do...where the climate is stubbornly temperate.

75f is almost 24c! Falling asleep on the sofa is often compounded to waking up and finding the dog and cat have both come and cuddled up!

I don't mind the heat as long as it doesn't get warmer than 30°C. I feel cold easily.

You might find half a dozen sessions in a sauna conditions you to the heat so that it ceases to be a problem.

I used to be terrible with heat, but since my thyroid problems I can deal with it a lot better. Cold on the other hand is now a problem.

I can deal with cold ... except in my toes and fingers, which probably indicates some kind of circulation problem. Like Col and wg I don't function well above 25°C. It's fine if I don't need to do anything, but if I want to be anything other than slow and sleepy I long for air-conditioning.

I am kind of glad we no longer have air-conditioning at work. It always used to be the case that once it got to the mid-twenties, people would put the units to 18c (the lowest setting) and then it would be so cold I'd be wrapped up and considering putting my coat on. If it was that cold any other time, they'd be putting on the heating! Either that, or some dolt would open the windows, too!

I prefer air-conditioning that *I* control. The worst thing is meeting rooms with individual thermostats - idiots turn them up to 30 degrees first thing in the morning, thinking that will warm the room up faster, and down to 15 degrees later on.

I have been trying for almost 4 years to explain the radiator thermostats to people in the office. They nod and agree with me that I am right and do the same thing. They crank them up to 7 (I think around 35c) in the morning and then back down when it's time to go home. As so many doors are open, the hotter rooms just end up heating the rest of the office and in the rooms where they are set lower, those shut off and you end op with several radiators blasting out localised heat, trying to warm a four storey building! In my office, they have been in the same place, summer and winter, all year. When it gets warm, they stay off; when it gets cold, they come on. Anyone who touches mine gets a slap (metaphorically speaking)! The computer room has an extractor fan to get rid of the hot air and that is set permanently since installation two years ago on the same level. It does the opposite and is also never adjusted!

With the past 2 days having been down into the mid-20s (ºC), it's been a nice break! It's about 27ºC now, and going to unfortunately be hotter than that starting tomorrow! Well, at least I've finished my fence (more on that later) and can properly enjoy the pool again!

I just got home from going out. I went for a ride on my bike round and about as I didn't fancy just coming back to the house and hiding inside. As long as I was on the move I was okay, but stopping in the wrong place was quite nasty with either the sun making my back boil or blinding me from the front.

It's 29C here now. I don't have AC but it's not too bad. Especially with a nice glass of sangria!
