Britons will understand the relevance of this. I was running low on petrol this morning and decided to get some from a nearby Sainsbury's filling station. On the way, I passed an Esso station with a tanker in the forecourt. "Shall I just wait until it's finished dispensing the petrol?" I thought. I decided to carry on, passing two more filling stations that were empty on the way. And there, at Sainsbury's there was petrol and a few cars but no queue. Easy peasy.

Not really, most people are taking the first opportunity to fill up when they can but now most cars are nearly full of petrol so the demand is slightly less.

I dreamt about the queen last night. We had supper together. It was quite informal and she had very kind eyes (which I don't think is true in real life).

And did she say "I don't trust any of my family, I'd like you to take over"?

No she didn't, but the family members around the table seemed pretty dysfunctional.

942 759 And here's the answer! "Late Middle English (denoting the sense of smell): from Old French sentir ‘perceive, smell’, from Latin sentire . The addition of -c- (in the 17th century) is unexplained." So I guess the c is silent

I'm a bit hesitant because of the Covid situation, but it doesn't look like it's going to get much better in the foreseeable future, so I'm hoping things will not be too depressing or dangerous. I'm double vaccinated, so I should be alright. I hope.

We certainly don't grow salmon, tangent. Did you think they're a vegetable? (What DO they teach them in schools in the UK...?)

What do you call it when salmon is cultivated in salmon farms? I think you feed them so they grow. OK you may catch wild salmon in Canadian streams with the help of a friendly bear but not before they have grown to a reasonable size. You rear cattle but you don't rear salmon. That doesn't seem right.

942 744 As far as I know, they raise salmon. Or catch it in the wild. But my only contact with salmon is eating it

Kevin and I just applied for our marriage license today! :-D
We're engaged (haha, pun not intended) in a much shorter countdown than the one in this thread. And also one that is much more likely to succeed. :-p
