I was interested to read today that the rift in the Scottish independentist movement has opened sharply in the last few days with the holding of a Green-Socialist meeting - don't they realise that Salmon's genius is that he has managed to create a mirage of independence that is merely the Union with a Scottish accent (and the inconvenient English element removed) retaining the monarchy, the pound and NATO: Scottish people have warmed to that. the Green-Socialist vision is of a republic, outside NATO but with a bigger army, nuclear free and with its own currency, these are proposals that are really attractive if you are a Green-Socialist but not to the middle ground of voters. At this rate they will lose the referendum (as Cameron is hoping).

Salmon wants to retain the monarchy, the pound and NATO? He can't have any of that. Let them appoint their own lord of the manor and switch to the groat. Their blood curling yells will be enough defense.

I think if they leave the union then we should leave too and change our currency. That way the UK would be Wales and Northern Ireland, which sounds like fun! |
