Still warm today and started raining when my back was turned on the way home... only popped into the shop for a few minutes!

I saw on FB the other day that we'd passed the perihelion, and now the mornings would start getting longer again. I might be counting down the start to spring, but I have a more immediate goal in mind: just 5 weeks til we leave for Disney!!!

Was rather on the chilly side here. Still, I can't complain too much as the last few days have been pretty mild. Suppose the clocks change in a month or so and then suddenly it will feel wintry, whatever the weather is doing

Yeah...just a couple weeks ago, the high temperatures broke and cool evenings started appearing in the line-up. It's nice. I like this early autumn cooling. Around here, we'll start getting the blustery light rains come mid-October and the darkness deepens. Then it is cold. And wet.

It still feels like late summer here: cool nights; warm days. I'm not complaining! Yet...

Yay summer is coming! We've had lovely sunny weather here but cold during the week, although warm over the weekend. Can't complain too much about that!

There has been an outbreak of gigantic spiders in Macclesfield, ten miles away from Marple, some as big as mice, says the Mirror. Not to be outdone, the Mail is claiming they are as big as rats.

35 degrees during the day here. I love summer and hate that it will be gone soon. Dread. Dread. Dread. At least it's still nice and warm. I'll take it over snow and ice. But if its going to be cold then no need to waste not having snow.

Beautiful day today here. And holy moly did everyone know it! It's really bizarre - all winter long there were lovely sunny weekends and DG and I would go out and nobody around. Today, spring fever hit EVERYONE! People were out in droves and the Dandenong Ranges were packed with gazillions of people! You could barely get a plek on the grass!

It isn't wet here this weekend, but quite cool. But we are determined not to put the heating on until mid-October, like last year.

If I see a rat sized spider you will all hear me scream from wherever you are. Actually even if I see a mice sized spider you will.

I think it translates to 2:54 am on Sunday, September 23.
You are eight hours ahead of us here on the far coast....give or take standard/daylight savings change.

We've all been suffering from the equinoxial gales. Yes those are a real thing and happen pretty regularly each year at these latitudes around the spring and fall equinoxes. So it's very often windy in both the UK and New Zealand at the same time when the nights are about the same lengths as the days.

You're in northern England....or the Midlands?
I have friends tramping alongside Hadrian's Wall and they are reporting stiff winds. Their last posting from their guesthouse reported power outages.

I think "equinoctial" is more the word. equinoxial Yup, my spellchecker dictionary agrees. Are equinoctial gales a real thing?

I think equinoxial is just an (officially obsolete) alternative spelling: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/equinoxial It seems a better spelling to me though as it means 'of or related to the equinox' and NOT 'of or related to the equinoc(t)'. But some internetting revealed that equinoctial gales are probably a myth: apparently it's just windier in the winter so the fall gales are just the beginning of the windy period and the spring gales are the end of it - there aren't (apparently) any peaks in either average or maximum recorded wind speeds close to the equinoxes, so I was wrong about that.

It has still been stinkin' windy around the equinox....this equinox. There.
Here, it is calm and damp.
