How was Paris? It was Paris this time, wasn't it?

Yes, and Paris was cold and windy though thankfully dry. But otherwise excellent. The pastries were amazing. And so much to see! Hardly any signs of spring there either except for some sheltered spots where flowers and buds were showing up a bit.

I just saw, though I hardly dare believe it, a forecast for Sunday for 18-20 and sun! Oh how wonderful that would be!

I know right! Though last Saturday I sat in the sun without a coat too.

The best I managed was to unzip my coat when in the sun and out of the wind, but no coat off yet. And my winter coat is about ready to be burried, now I can't even zip it up. I wonder if I could find a bargain sale one somewhere still...don't really want to spend the money though as hopefully I won't be needing one for much longer!

I wonder if I could find a bargain sale one somewhere still... Charity shop? We don't really have those like you do in the UK.

Do you have jumble sales or car boot sales?

Post by Mari on Apr 9, 2013 19:23:15 GMT
Yes, but not often and again, not like you have in the UK.

Do you have jumble sales or car boot sales? Jumble sales? Car boot sales? More terms with which I am unfamiliar.

Do you have jumble sales or car boot sales? Jumble sales? Car boot sales? More terms with which I am unfamiliar. 50 years ago the scouts and church groups would go round knocking on doors asking for 'jumble' (unwanted clothes and goods). They would then hold a jumble sale in the church hall to help fund their group. They were great social occasions. In later decades they morphed into car boot sales. You would fill your car boot with unwanted goods and take it to the church car park, or some other location, where there would be 20 other people trying to sell their old stuff. Eventually, car boots were replaced by indoor tables in the church hall but the event is still called a car boot sale. Charity shops are slightly different. If a regular shop closes down in the town centre, a charity can lease the shop free of charge for the purpose of selling secondhand goods.

I guess the closest would be Queen's Day when everybody sells their junk. Lots of people anyway. But the weather seems to be warming up a little now so buttoning instead of zipping my jacket seems to function well enough and soon I won't need it (I hope). And then I will look for a stylish wool jacket which will be more appropriate for an Australian winter than these sleeping bag type jackets you need here.

Interesting, tangent. Here, people just tend to have garage/yard sales to get rid of their jumble.
